Morning Show Producer Internship

KEXP’s Internship Program seeks to provide interns from historically under-invited communities with hands-on experience in the nonprofit arts sector. Our program is designed to develop and equip emerging leaders interested in furthering their careers in a variety fields of including music programming, audio production, and nonprofit capacity building. 

All internships are 6-months long, range from 15-20 hours per week, and include:

  • a monthly stipend that equals $15 per hour
  • opportunities for mentoring
  • mandatory monthly cohort activities
  • final presentation to KEXP’s executive leadership team 

Internship Position Summary: This intern works with the Morning Show Producer to provide programming content support exclusively for The Morning Show in real time. The intern will be involved in the preparation of the show while assisting with the maintenance and creation of programming content throughout the duration of The Morning Show. Gain invaluable experience in broadcast production while supporting KEXP’s mission by providing critical support to one of KEXP’s flagship programs. 

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and write content around audio features for the Morning Show
  • Clean up audio transcriptions
  • Plan and write social media content for the Morning Show
  • Record, edit and catalog audio files
  • Pull albums from the music library for the Morning Show 
  • As needed, update the Real Time Playlist with DJ comments relevant to music programming
  • Obtain listener song requests from the music library
  • File away albums at the end of the show
  • Attend monthly intern cohort meetings and activities
  • End of internship capstone project and presentation


General Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of KEXP and Morning Show specific artists
  • Passion for and commitment to KEXP’s mission 
  • Able to commit to early morning availability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work quickly, accurately and independently, as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Weekday availability during early morning hours (the Morning Show airs 6am-10am, M-F)
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Interest in broadcast and production work

Skills Learned:

  • Experience in the behind the scenes preparation and execution of The Morning Show radio broadcast in real time.
  • Writing and research skills
  • Social media for broadcast
  • Content writing for broadcast
  • Audio editing
  • Interpersonal skills needed for collaboration within a team, as well as across departments
  • Ability to prioritize work and problem solve
  • Additional opportunity to pursue project or learn specific skill based on personal interest (with approval from Supervisor)
