Creative Production Internship

KEXP’s Internship Program seeks to provide interns from historically under-invited communities with hands-on experience in the nonprofit arts sector. Our program is designed to develop and equip emerging leaders interested in furthering their careers in a variety fields of including music programming, audio production, and nonprofit capacity building. 

All internships are 6-months long, 15 hours per week, and include:

  • a monthly stipend that equals $15 per hour
  • opportunities for mentoring
  • mandatory monthly cohort activities
  • final presentation to KEXP’s executive leadership team 

Internship Position Summary: This internship works with KEXP’s Creative Producer, assisting KEXP’s Production and Programming teams to edit and create content for use on-air and online. This audio work creates a better listening experience for our audience, provides essential tools for our DJ’s and production staff, supports interdepartmental collaboration and requests, and serves our external partners.The intern will gain invaluable experience in creative audio production while helping to deliver content that inspires music discovery in our community.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Editing artist and legal IDs
  • Accessing and editing audio from KEXP’s programming archive
  • Processing radio edits of songs
  • Assisting in cleanup and maintenance of audio files as needed
  • Assisting Creative Producer with the collection of music beds for creative production
  • Fulfilling duplication requests
  • Creating and/or editing scripts as needed
  • Promo production assistance 
  • Uploading audio content to the web
  • Cross train Audio Post-Production intern in Creative Production workflow
  • Attend monthly intern cohort meetings and activities
  • End of internship capstone project and presentation

General Qualifications: 

  • Passion for and commitment to KEXP’s mission
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects
  • Commitment to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once
  • Basic audio editing experience with DAW software (Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail, especially related to metadata

Skills Learned: 

  • Audio editing using Adobe Audition
  • KEXP’s creative production process 
  • Experience working with other KEXP departments
  • In-depth experience in Adobe Audition and Dalet
  • Operation of broadcast studios and equipment, including broadcast consoles, Audio Vault and Dalet
  • Interpersonal skills needed for collaboration within a team, as well as across departments
  • Ability to prioritize work and problem solve
  • Opportunity to learn production techniques across the department, including live in-studios, events, and remote broadcasts
  • Additional opportunity to pursue project or learn specific skill based on personal interest (with approval from Supervisor)
