Description

TPI has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Human Resources Specialist. This is a full-time on-site position in Des Moines, IA, reporting to the Human Resources Manager. 


Position Summary: This position is primarily responsible for supporting human resources functions, including employee engagement, recruiting and onboarding, benefits administration, FMLA and leave management, safety and compliance programs, employee communications, training coordination, and HR recordkeeping. The Human Resources Specialist serves as a key resource for employees and managers, helping ensure compliance with company policies and employment regulations while providing exceptional employee support.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a resource for employees and managers regarding HR policies, benefits, leave programs, safety procedures, and employment-related questions. 
  • Coordinate employee engagement initiatives, employee recognition programs, training programs, and company communication efforts.
  • Maintain departmental files, including employee, payroll, benefits, I-9, applicant, job description, safety, leave, and compliance records.
  • Assist with onboarding activities, including new hire paperwork, background screening, drug screen coordination, and new hire orientation support.
  • Support recruiting and hiring activities as needed, including posting job openings, reviewing applicants, coordinating interviews, and communicating with candidates.
  • Support departmental and company-wide safety programs, safety training, incident documentation, OSHA-related recordkeeping, and disaster response planning.
  • Assist with benefits administration, including employee eligibility, enrollment support, employee questions, and annual open enrollment.
  • Coordinate FMLA, leave of absence, accommodation, and return-to-work processes, including tracking documentation, communicating with employees, and maintaining related records.
  • Assist with payroll administration, recordkeeping, reporting, and payroll-related inquiries as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment, payroll, leave, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Participate in special HR projects and provide administrative support across all areas of Human Resources.
Requirements
  • BA/BS degree required in Human Resources, Business, or related field. 
  • Minimum 3 years of  Human Resources experience in areas such as recruiting, benefits administration, leave management, safety, compliance, employee relations, onboarding, or HR operations.
  • Experience using HRIS systems, preferably Paylocity.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state payroll, wage and hour, leave, and employment compliance requirements.
  • Experience assisting with FMLA, leaves of absence, benefits administration, or safety programs preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with professionalism.
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and provide responsive support to employees and managers.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience using AI-enabled tools to improve HR processes while exercising sound judgment and protecting confidential information.
  • Professional certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
  • Experience working in printing or graphic arts industry a plus.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit for extended periods. Some standing and walking are required. Continuous vision required for detailed work. Frequent hand/wrist/finger movement for data entry.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Typically works 40 hours per week with limited over-time as needed.
