Description

 

Purpose:  

The Human Resources Generalist will provide Human Resources expertise and leadership in the planning and execution of daily human resources operations,  including, but not limited to: recruiting, onboarding, training and development, employee relations, legal compliance, record keeping, compensation and benefits administration.

  • Provide support to other departments and staff.

Essential Duties:

Recruiting

  • In coordination with hiring manager, recruit, screen, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions.
  • Assist with the development of new job descriptions and maintain active job descriptions for all positions in the organization
  • Build and maintain relationships with post-secondary institutions, professional organizations, workforce development agencies, etc. to establish a recruitment pipeline. 

Employee Relations

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of organizational HR policies and procedures, and support employees and supervisors with consistent interpretation of these policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Process terminations of employment.
  • Conduct employee exit interviews and compile data for analysis and quality improvement. 
  • Communicate human-resources related information to employees. 
  • Create and support team building and workplace culture improvement activities. 

Onboarding and Training and Development

  • Lead development and implementation of new employee orientation. 
  • Coordinate with program directors to develop and monitor compliance with organization-wide and program-specific employee training requirements. 
  • Develop and implement ongoing Supervisory Training to support employees new to supervisory roles. 
  • Complete I-9 forms, verify I-9 documentation and maintain I-9 files.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with required training and continuing education.
  • Oversee and maintain employee professional development request process. 

Record Keeping & Compliance

  • Ensure employee compliance with YWCA HR policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and federal labor and employment laws and EEOC guidance and requirements from referral and funding sources, and ensure organizational compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and requirements. 
  • Monitor, maintain and enhance the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) System to maximize HRIS utilization and streamline Human Resources functions.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of  significant employment events, such as hiring, termination, leaves of absence, transfers, discipline, annual evaluation, and changes in position or pay. 
  • Report worker’s compensations claims and  maintain and monitor workers' compensation case files, providing follow-up information as required.
  • Coordinate with Director of Operations and outside counsel to  respond to investigations or charges by regulatory agencies, and any labor/employment litigation to which the organization is a party.  
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality regarding employee records and information.

Benefits Administration

  • Provide comprehensive information to employees about YWCA benefits programs. 
  • Administer all health and welfare plans, including enrollments and terminations.
  • Lead annual open enrollment process. 
  • Continuously evaluate employee benefits program and propose changes required for employee retention or legal compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the organization's goals.
Requirements

 

Education:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or other related field. 
  • SHRM-CP preferred.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 1-3 years of substantive experience in a human resources function.
  • Comfortable using and leveraging technology to efficiently meet organizational needs, as evidenced by:
    • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, with a strong working knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets 
    • 1-3 years of experience with HRIS and electronic file management systems. Experience using Paylocity preferred.
    • Experience processing and analyzing data. 
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Capable of independent judgment and exercising discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters. 
  • Capable of prioritizing and handling  multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and files.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to take initiative to solve problems and work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must comply with organization’s policy of automobile insurance; must have a valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance coverage. 
  • Professional work attitude/manner and appropriate work attire.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds).  
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. 
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  
  • Ability to sit at a computer work station for extended periods of time.  
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.  
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.  
  • Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment, though travel may expose employee to inclement weather conditions. 
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with clients, staff and volunteers.
