Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (“rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need.

The Discovery Biology group is looking for a strong, enthusiastic candidate to join our team and make an immediate impact on high priority targets critical to our mission. The person in this role will employ a wide range of cell biology techniques and leverage their understanding of cellular biology and drug discovery to make a major impact in early-stage programs. You will contribute to Arrakis’ drug discovery efforts through designing and building cell-based assays for compound screening and mechanism of action studies and contribute to target validation efforts by employing state-of-the-art scientific approaches. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced start-up environment, and will leverage independent troubleshooting and technical skills to make a large impact on our mission.

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize CRISPR engineering and viral transduction methods to develop reporter cell assays for compound screening and mechanism of action studies.
  • Employ a wide range of cell biology and molecular biology techniques for validation and assessment of targets (e.g. genetic knockdown and overexpression, western blotting, qRT-PCR, FACS) and supporting advancement of Arrakis discovery programs.
  • Provide tissue culture support and guidance within the team and across functions
  • Work effectively in a cross-functional capacity with molecular pharmacology, chemistry, RNA biology and RNA biochemistry teams to deliver high-quality results in an efficient manner.
  • Record, communicate, and present experimental outcomes effectively to small teams and across the organization.

  • B.S in biology or biochemistry with 5+ years relevant industry experience. M.S. in Biology/Biotechnology with 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • Expertise in mammalian tissue culture with the demonstrated ability to culture and manipulate diverse cell lines is required.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of cell and molecular biology techniques for interrogating targets of interest is required including target modulation using sh/siRNA and overexpression, western blotting, qPCR, and PCR
  • Experience with CRISPR-based cell engineering and prior experience in oncology focused drug discovery are a plus.
  • Ability to independently design, execute and troubleshoot experiments and effectively communicate results and methodologies with management and colleagues.
  • Proactive and efficient to enable high-quality results while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Exhibits passion and excitement over work. Has a can-do attitude without losing objectivity.
