Position Description 


As an Equipment Manager for U.S. Soccer, this position is responsible managing various aspects of team equipment operations as it relates to U.S Soccer’s National Teams and key non-promo internal Federation departments based in Chicago and Kansas City. The position demands a high level of familiarity with the sport of soccer, the products and equipment necessary for facilitating training and competition, both on and off the field. This position reports to and works closely with the Director of Equipment Operations to meet departmental goals.

As a member of the Equipment Operations department, this position travels as required and is an integral part of the National Teams support staff. A high degree of professionalism is required, as is the ability to independently create quick, effective solutions for issues that arise. The position is heavily focused on ensuring the players and coaching staff can rely on having team equipment needs secured for all training, matches, etc. on and off the field. Additionally, this role collaborates closely with National Teams Administrators to ensure the success of all on and off the field requirements and process in addition to overseeing equipment staffing needs are met by identifying, hiring, onboarding and managing network staff at these year-round events with the teams. 

Requirements

  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Effective management of day to day operations of on-site equipment headquarters, National Training Center storage rooms and locker rooms
  • Use inventory software to maintain accurate product inventory, product replenishment needs and individual product dispersal 
  • Forecast and assist with the departmental monitoring of the Corporate Sponsor annual buy for all Youth National Teams, Extended National Teams, and non-promo Federation departments 
  • Process, manage and place both futures and at-once orders against yearly product allocation via U.S. Soccer’s Corporate Sponsor’s online ordering system
  • Review and analyze financial information from vendor contracts ensure all operations are within budget
  • Manage all aspects of network staffing needs through staff identification, interviewing, hiring, and training as well as scheduling staffing levels, assignments and overseeing their duties at all training camps and matches 
  • Manage the movement and logistical planning for all equipment needs for all National Teams domestic and international camps, matches and tournaments including the coordination, packing and overseeing the shipping and receiving logistics
  • Serve as the key point of contact for any and all critical equipment fulfillment needs that arise for traveling teams, Federation staff, departments, etc. 
  • Sustain proactive communication with Director of Equipment Operations, National Teams administration and coaching personnel
  • Assist with the National Teams coaching staff with equipment and training set up, as needed
  • Responsible for effective team laundry needs while on the road 
  • Ensure presentation of the team (team gear, attire, etc.) is of the highest quality
  • Coordinate with corporate sponsors on product ordering, distribution, presentation, and compliance 
  • Complete goal setting and performance review discussions with staff on an annual basis

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least one year of prior related experience in sports or events  
  • Strong soccer knowledge 
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication combined with a professional demeanor
  • Ability to anticipate needs and problem solve 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several different projects simultaneously
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) 
  • Ability to lift and handle boxes weighing upwards of 75 lbs
  • Able and willing to travel up to 50% of the year 
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed


Desired Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree
  • 1-3 years of prior competitive sports team, equipment management experience 
  • Ability to create and enhance a team-centric environment 
  • History of working with inventory and ordering system(s) 
  • Passion for soccer 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Passion and strong understanding of the soccer game and landscape 
  • Thorough institutional knowledge of U.S. Soccer’s mission, goals, technical plan, policies, practices, and procedures 
  • Previous experience with a club or national team
