Flock Service Technician (Full-Time, Salary)
Description

Purpose:

To provide technical support and service to Maple Lawn Associates, Inc. (MLA) pullet and layer flocks, serving God and Humanity by providing excellent and innovative poultry products for life and health. This includes cultivating consistent professional working relationships with our customers, contract farmers, potential contract farmers, and suppliers.


Essential Responsibilities:

• Manage all compliance and regulatory documentation associated to the throughput of product

o Collect and submit the various flock samples required by our customers

o Document all submissions and file according to company policy

o Work closely with Production team to remain in compliance at all times with the following:

- Customer compliance specifications

- FDA

- CDFA

- MLA Flock Care Program

- MLA SERP

- MLA Producer SOP

• Oversee the growing of pullets and roosters, either MLA or custom grown:

o Service flocks

o Work with contract farmers to continually improve flock service program

o Communicate with various flock partners, as well as custom pullet growers, to maintain compliance at all times

o See that hauling, service, vaccinations, wash-downs, etc. are performed correctly

o Create individualized vaccination schedules based on company program

o Vaccinate pullet flocks/monitor vaccination crews

o Create lighting schedules for pullet producers

o Attend and help with chick placements

o Monitor all feed orders

o Collect blood samples for routine testing

o Swab birds and houses for routine testing

o Establish good working relationship with PADLS laboratory veterinarians

o Address any/all flock issues (i.e. bird health, environmental issues, etc.)

o Perform routine quality tests (water, feed, stray voltage, etc.)

• Oversee contract embryo and commercial production and provide superior layer management services:

o Service flocks

o Work with Producers to continually improve flock service program

o Communicate and coordinate various schedules with Producers

o Weigh birds

o Monitor all feed orders

o Improve flock conditions and egg quality (collaborate with Production Manager)

o Address any/all flock issues (i.e. bird health, environmental issues, etc.)

o Perform routine quality tests (water, feed, stray voltage, etc.)

o Routinely draw blood to evaluate flock health and current vaccination program

• Attend industry related/poultry health meetings

• Attend customer audits when necessary

• Respond to quarterly audits

• Complete data entry of flock performance

• Communicate flock performance and production information to Production Manager to better develop weekly feed rations

• Provide training for contract farmers and their employees

• Communicate with commercial flock partners to maintain customer compliance at commercial egg facilities based on egg market demands

• Follow all MLA safety guidelines


Other Responsibilities:

• Be available on-call to respond to emergency needs related to flock service

• Participate in leadership meetings, as requested

• Participate in educational opportunities such as poultry conventions, skill development, etc.

• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED; and at least 3 years poultry and animal production experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• B.S. in Agriculture preferred

• Must have valid Driver’s License

• Must have PA Certified Poultry Technician license, or ability to get licensed with proper training

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to be trained on other computer programs as needed

• Be able to respond to emergency calls after hours via company-provided cell phone

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as maintenance instructions and standard operating procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or producers.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
