In 1990, a small group of dedicated volunteers with a desire to eliminate substandard housing in our community founded San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to our supporters, more than 300 local and international families have been able to build or repair their own homes here in Los Angeles’ San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Through the years, we have maintained our unrelenting determination to help families in need by offering a hand up, not a handout.

Through donations, shopping at our ReStores, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.

Job Summary

 The Individual Giving Officer plays a critical role in cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors to drive financial support for the organization. This role involves developing and implementing fundraising initiatives targeted at individual donors. The expectation is to maintain SGV Habitat’s existing portfolio with our current partners, while also cultivating 25-50 new individual donors with a gift limit of up to $5,000. The Individual Giving Officer conducts prospect research, identifies donor engagement opportunities, and establishes personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies. Through their expertise in donor engagement and fundraising, the Individual Giving Officer contributes to the organization's financial sustainability and the advancement of its mission. 


Essential Job Duties

  • Responsible for all individual and small organization donor communications via thank you calls, cards, emails, letters; and year-end giving statements.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with a portfolio of 25 – 50 new individual donors annually, ensuring effective stewardship and engagement.
  • Create new procedures to grow our individual donor database portfolio to increase donors through moves management in previously underutilized cities within the organization’s service area.
  • Oversee, maintain, and grow the Builder’s Club program for recurring donors.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with community and faith-based organizations to support fundraising efforts of the organization.
  • Function as a key member of the resource development team: collaborate with other team members, participate in staff meetings, and participate in shaping the department’s individual giving procedures that may include providing new ideas or initiatives for individual giving.
  • Support the resource development team with data tracking and reporting outcomes for the individual giving portfolio; ensuring that all donor accounts in that category are updated and maintained in the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Is committed to San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity’s mission to eliminate substandard housing and make affordable housing a matter of conscience and action.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year university or applicable experience

Experience

  • Talented in establishing and growing strong professional relationships with donors that result in moving donors to higher level of giving while growing donations below $5,000
  • Previous project management experience is a great plus-especially when prioritizing projects to achieve goals and self-effectiveness
  • Previous experience working with Office Suite (word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience in data input
  • Previous experience in analyzing data and entering donations from customer relations management (CRM) databases (preferably RE-NXT). 
  • Familiar with creating donor acknowledgement letters and in-kind asks

Knowledge

  • Knowledgeable in software systems
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong working knowledge of Blackbaud Raisers Edge NXT database
  • Known problem solving and analytical ability

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Very proficient  creative writer
