The Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for engaging and reconnecting students to schools to maximize educational opportunities for students with chronic attendance concerns. This position will conduct outreach efforts with students and their families to identify obstacles that are preventing the student from attending school.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, people and collaboration skills, business acumen, exemplary work ethic, organized, self-motivated, and a problem solver. Ability to cross cultural boundaries to build and maintain strong working relationships. This position works with minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and interactive skills.


  • Collaborate with school and district staff or faculty to identify students who are not engaged in school and reconnect them to CMS
  • Develop and implement a multi-pronged outreach strategy for identified students
  • Engage in outreach efforts with students and their families to identify the obstacles that are preventing the student from attending school
  • Identify the services available to assist the family and identify gaps in service provisions
  • Coordinate and support referral efforts as appropriate identifying, implementing, and coordinating an array of programs, services and resources designed to reengage students
  • Communicate with school support team on a regular basis to seek input and report on program progress
  • Coordinate and conduct in-person and virtual targeted interventions aimed at reengaging students
  • Document student and family outreach efforts and progress toward goals utilizing Microsoft Excel and/or other designated systems
  • Establish and maintain accurate and complete data in designated system with appropriate and up-to-date information and documentation per program procedures and guidelines
  • Support all reporting requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Two (2) plus years of relevant equivalent experience in education, social work, youth development or related field.
  • Experience working collaboratively with administrators, staff, parents and/or students
  • Proven ability to set priorities and work with minimal supervision
  • A willingness to follow the philosophy of CIS and operate as a team player
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, with an acceptable driving record to conduct appropriate outreach efforts


  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with Google Suite, Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Must be solutions oriented
  • Must be self-motivated, well organized, detail oriented, and able to effectively work independently and within a team framework
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, feel and keyboard; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, or bend. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.

The position is located within the Charlotte Mecklenburg area. Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality are required. Regular and satisfactory performance including meeting all process deadlines and stated deliverables is required.

The duration for this full time, benefit eligible position is for a 1 (one) year assignment. Opportunities for an extension and/or another role within CIS may be available.
