Role Overview: A CAD designer's main job duty is creating drawings and specifications based on equations, calculations and written instructions provided by scientists and engineers. The designer uses CAD drafting skills to draw plans that are easily understood by end users. The job entails fine-tuning and revising plans to meet client requirements. Designer will adhere to a set of predetermined CAD standards and techniques and works under direction of the engineering or science team to ensure clear representation of design objectives.

Responsibilities: (The following is a list of responsibilities of this position, but is not intended to cover all duties that this position may be required to perform from time to time.)

  • Prepare dimensional drawings, detailed technical drawings.
  • Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes, in collaboration with the project team.
  • Use a variety of CAD software programs to create designs in 2D and 3D models.
  • Coordinate with internal clients (ex. scientists, engineers) to understand their design requirements and provide technical advice.
  • Effectively communicate with engineers, scientists, and clients.
  • Provide accurate, detailed and high-quality products.
  • Ensure drawings are compliant with industry standards and protocols.
  • Present working drawings for use in all stages of the project as requested.
  • Be available as a technical resource for CAD technologies throughout the organization.
  • Follow guidelines for product production to maintain consistency.
  • Comply with all current policies and procedures of SynTerra.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety training in order to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Full-Time employees: Available to work 40 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or his/her designee.

Minimum Skills/Experience Required:

  • Associate degree in CAD of drafting is required. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experiences as a CAD designer using AutoCAD is preferred. Experience in Mining, Environmental or Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoDesk AutoCAD Map 3D or Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Experience with Carlson Software Modules is preferred.
  • Conceptualization skills are required to visualize finished products and projects.
  • Computer drawing talents are necessary.
  • Knowledge of geometry and engineering terminology is needed. 
  • Basic computer literacy, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat software skills required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
  • Basic knowledge of mining, civil, geological, and mechanical terminology and hardware preferred. 
  • Excellent math skills required.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • The CAD Designer must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail. 
  • The CAD Designer’s work environment does not require much physical movement. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
  • This position is an office environment. There may be occasional trips to customer sites required in this job, where dust and noise may be present.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
