BuildAbility’s mission is to create the space for individuals with disabilities to consider a life without limitations, then help them take the steps needed to make that life a possibility.

We are looking for Mentors to support clients enrolled in our Community Integration Program (Quest). The Quest Mentor works directly with between 1-3 clients each day, helping them to navigate the community, explore their interests, participate events/activities, and develop vocational skills like searching the internet for jobs, completing job applications, and attending classes. The Quest Program operates from 8:30 am-1:30 pm (5-hours per day). Those seeking full-time employment will be offered hours supporting clients in Build's other programs in the afternoons.

Overview of Quest Mentor Position

  • Meets clients at a community hub each morning and facilitates the scheduled activities for the day, including use of public transportation
  • Provides opportunities for the clients to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self-regulation/coping techniques
  • Provides hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the client's pre-vocational skills and finds educational opportunities or classes to assist them in further development
  • Advocates for client's inclusion in the community and empowers clientsthe  to exercise their rights
  • Use BuildAbility’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance

  • Starting at $16.04+/hour depending upon prior experience and other qualifications

Overview of Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner
  • Optimistic attitude and ability to give encouraging verbal feedback regularly
  • Must pass pre-employment background check
  • Valid California ID 
  • Reliable Transportation
