Youth and Young Adult Mentor

Job Types: Part-time, 24-32 hours per week

Pay: From $17 an hour, $18 with a Bachelor's Degree. Additional increases offered for training, education, and experience.

Reports to: Lead Supervisor, Campus Supervisor

All positions are part-time, and Sundays are required (once or twice a month).

Young people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and emotional dysregulation come to Telos to find healing and support. As a Mentor or Resident Advisor, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while helping clients navigate emotional and behavioral challenges in daily life. Staff build meaningful relationships with clients while supporting emotional regulation, crisis de-escalation, and the implementation of therapeutic skills outside of formal therapy sessions.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide direct supervision and maintain the safety and emotional well-being of clients 
  • Support clients through emotional crises using de-escalation, co-regulation, and behavior management techniques 
  • Help clients identify triggers, practice coping skills, and apply therapeutic interventions in real-life situations 
  • Build trusting, professional relationships that promote accountability, resilience, and healthy decision-making 
  • Observe, assess, and respond appropriately to behavioral and mental health concerns 
  • Maintain consistent structure, boundaries, and therapeutic expectations within the residential environment 
  • Communicate and document client behaviors, progress, incidents, and observations with clinical and leadership teams 
  • Transport clients safely to appointments, activities, and program functions 
  • Respond appropriately in emergencies, including first aid situations and behavioral crises 
  • Participate in healthy recreational and experiential activities with clients, including hiking, skiing, rock climbing, and other group experiences designed to build connection and emotional growth 
  • Collaborate with therapists, supervisors, and treatment teams to support individualized client goals and treatment plans

SCHEDULE:

We are currently hiring for the following shifts:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 7am-3pm

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 3pm-11pm

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: 7am-3pm

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: 3pm-11pm

On-Call

Each shift includes Sundays, once or twice a month.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideal for former athletes, coaches, military personnel, or those comfortable with confrontation and de-escalation
  • Requires strong presence, emotional control, and the ability to influence behavior in real time
  • Exceptional relationship skills
  • A tolerant, supportive view of the LGBTQI+ community.
  • Must have the ability to participate in physical safety interventions
  • Must have the ability to hold appropriate boundaries with staff and students.
  • Experience working with youth or young adults in the behavioral health field (required)
  • Experience in a residential treatment center (preferred)

Salary Description
