A mid-size Chicago-based insurance defense firm has an immediate opening for Associate Attorneys in both our Chicago and St. Louis offices to handle local and national accounts. Admission to practice in Illinois is required, with preference given to candidates also admitted to the Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, or Iowa bar. Our firm’s expertise spans toxic tort, complex product liability, general liability, and professional liability. Position Overview: This is a hands-on role requiring strong case management skills, precision in legal writing, and professionalism in depositions and court hearings across multiple jurisdictions. Candidates must be hard-working, motivated, and capable of independent work. Ideal candidates will possess excellent analytical and critical reasoning skills, the ability to think strategically under pressure, and a client-focused mentality.


Primary Responsibilities:

• Independently manage a litigation caseload.

• Review, analyze, and draft discovery requests.

• Conduct depositions.

• Prepare and argue motions.

• Provide trial preparation and support.

• Investigate facts.

• Prepare witnesses for deposition and trial.

• Attend court hearings and trials.

• Maintain accurate time records.


Candidate Requirements:

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

• 1-5 years of litigation experience.

• Admitted to practice in Illinois (secondary admission to Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Texas bar preferred).

• Experience with motion practice and depositions.

• Lead experience in plaintiff and expert depositions preferred.

• Capable of independent work.

• Highly organized and efficient.

• Superior research and writing skills.

• Ability to multi-task effectively.

• Strong analytical skills.


Compensation and Benefits Overview: $90,000-$120,000 (DOE)

The compensation offered for this role will vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Eligible employees may also receive bonuses and other forms of compensation, contributing to a comprehensive total rewards package. Benefits offerings may vary by location.
