Description
The Senior Project Interior Designer is a senior strategic leader responsible for shaping, leading, and evolving the interior design experience across multiple Blue Heron homes. This role balances high-level creative direction and business accountability, while also directly leading complex, high-visibility luxury residential projects.
In addition to delivering exceptional interiors, the Senior Project Interior Designer serves as a mentor, decision-maker, and trusted partner to leadership helping manage risk, and ensure interior design excellence is delivered consistently, profitably, and at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic oversight for interiors across multiple projects and/or designers.
- Partner with leadership to align interiors strategy with broader business and project objectives.
- Conceptualize and present sophisticated interior design solutions that align with client aspirations, architectural intent, and Blue Heron brand standards.
- Command the room in client meetings: set agenda and tone, present confidently, and guide decision making at the highest level.
- Act as a trusted interior design advisor to sophisticated luxury clients.
- Provide creative direction and design review of projects led by Project Interior Designers.
- Balance client advocacy with operational, schedule, and financial realities.
- Manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle by addressing challenges proactively, offering strategic solutions, and maintaining clear, consistent communication.
- Curate, specify, and coordinate luxury materials, finishes, FF&E, textiles, and bespoke detailing.
- Ensure seamless integration of architectural elements with interior spaces.
- Design effectively to budget, meet project milestones, and continuously improve design workflow efficiency.
- Closely manage and oversee client billable hours related to interiors scope.
- Partner with Project Design Managers, Project Managers, and leadership to align interiors with overall project strategy.
- Identify project risks and proactively manage scope, schedule, and budget challenges.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally with estimating, procurement, construction, architecture, sales, and marketing teams to execute design plans consistently and maintain visibility on cost, lead times, and risk.
- Serve as a primary interiors voice in design reviews, constructability reviews, and onsite walkthroughs.
- Advocate for the client experience while aligning with operational realities and company goals.
- Serve as a primary mentor in the development of the interiors team, modeling best-in-class design thinking, presentation skills, technical design, support resources, and client engagement.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Blue Heron Interior Design Experience, interior standards, tools, and training.
- Represent interior design in internal initiatives, brand storytelling, and thought leadership efforts.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design required.
- 10-15 years of interior design experience in luxury residential or luxury hospitality required.
- Proven track record leading multiple high-end residential projects and mentoring interior designers required.
- NCIDQ certification preferred but not required.
- Demonstrates strong independent project leadership with an emerging ability to think strategically and anticipate project needs.
- Exceptional portfolio demonstrating concept-to-completion leadership in luxury environments.
- Expert-level knowledge of materials, detailing, FF&E, and custom fabrication.
- Advanced knowledge of construction methodologies, architectural detailing, and finish materials.
- Exceptional ability to manage complex client and stakeholder relationships and serve as a trusted interior design advisor to sophisticated clients.
- Superior organizational and project management skills, capable of handling multiple complex projects concurrently while meeting deadlines and maintaining design intent.
- Proven ability to lead clients through complex decisions with confidence, empathy, and clarity.
- Strong business acumen with confidence engaging in budget, value engineering, and financial discussions.
- Proficiency in industry standard tools including Microsoft Office Suite, SketchUp, and Bluebeam.
