As a leader of the therapeutic care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct care for patients as they progress through the observation and medical detoxification process. The RN will collaborate with physicians, counselors, behavioral health technicians, other RN's and health care professionals to coordinate, plan and deliver excellent patient care using a multidisciplinary patient-centered approach.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide high quality, compassionate care to monitor ethical substance abuse, pain management, and suicide screening to clients as scheduled in a group setting.
- Assess and monitor patients’ physical and psychological signs and symptoms of withdrawal from mood-altering chemicals.
- Administer medications as prescribed with the goal of ensuring that the patient detoxifies safely.
- Obtains and documents nursing history from patients and/or significant others that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems.
- Performs basic assessment of patients, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Records vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more-specific investigations as needed. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
- Follows Physician orders for patient care for admissions, medication administration, treatment protocols and discharge.
- Provides quality care assurance, following state and nursing guidelines and standards and Infection Control Protocols.
- Monitors patient progress and vitals based on treatment protocols to ensure patient progress and safety and charting patient care in patient and department charts in EMR system.
- Participates in handoff report meetings at beginning and end of shift for continuity of care and effective communication.
- Responsible for accurate and timely communication of all Nursing and Medical supply needs to Nursing Lead.
- Addresses the physical effects of addiction and administers treatments to ease the symptoms so patients can concentrate on breaking their addictions.
- Plays a teaching role in addition to providing physical care. Teaches Patients about the dangers of drug abuse, including the physical and psychological effects; the damage to relationships and family life; and the impact on meeting basic needs such as holding down a job.
- Educates Patients regarding treatment options, including those they can use on either an inpatient or outpatient basis, and those they can use to stay drug-free long-term.
- Educates Patients’ family members about what to expect from the rehab process and how they can support their loved one's attempt to conquer drug addiction.
- Provides advocacy as needed to ensure patient knows and understands their rights and ensures patient informed consent.
- Supervises care given by BHT staff and provides instruction as needed.
- Understands patient care goals as voiced by the patient, making the patient a major part of his treatment and recovery.
- Supports nursing care standards through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
- Participates in peer review as appropriate.
- Assumes responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs and conferences.
- Ensure medications are always stocked by completely inventory regularly.

Required Competencies

•Vital Signs - Demonstrates knowledge and able to properly check vital signs: Accu-Check & safe parameters, blood alcohol levels (BAL), blood pressure parameters, pulse, respiration, temperature, conversation with patient.
•Demonstrates knowledge and able to properly review UA/ Pregnancy test results.
•Performs Chart Checks – reviewing MAR, orders, labs, UA's for accuracy and confirm that all tasks are completed.
Education and Experience
•Current RN license to practice nursing in the state of Arizona.
•Current CPR certification
•Fingerprint Clearance Card
•Crisis Prevention Intervention CPI
Detox experience 1 year (preferred)
•Psychiatric experience 1 year (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
•Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•Prolonged periods of standing.
•Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
