Position Summary
The Outside Sales Director is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the organization’s outside sales team to drive revenue growth and expand market share. This role focuses on building strong client relationships, developing strategic sales initiatives, and ensuring the sales team meets or exceeds performance targets. The Outside Sales Director works closely with executive leadership, marketing, and operations to align sales strategies with overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and manage the outside sales team.
- Set clear sales goals, quotas, and performance expectations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions.
- Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve company revenue targets.
- Identify new market opportunities and drive customer acquisition.
- Monitor sales metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
- Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and strategic partners.
- Support sales representatives in closing high-value deals.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Sales Strategy & Planning
- Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs.
- Collaborate with marketing to develop lead-generation initiatives.
- Create territory strategies and optimize sales coverage.
- Team Development
- Recruit, train, and onboard new outside sales representatives.
- Provide ongoing coaching and professional development.
- Foster a high-performance, results-driven sales culture.
- Reporting & Forecasting
- Track and report sales performance to executive leadership.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline reporting.
- Utilize CRM tools to monitor activity and performance.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- 7–10+ years of sales experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Experience managing outside/field sales teams.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and ERP platforms (e.g. Infor Cloudsuite, Oracle)
