JOB SUMMARY
The Café Host/Hostess is a self-motivated individual responsible for the daily operation of the Medical Center Clinic Courtyard Café. This role prepares and serves food and beverages to patients, guests, and staff while maintaining a welcoming, clean, and efficient café environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet patrons in a friendly and professional manner and respond promptly to requests or questions.
- Provide excellent customer service while recommending menu items, upselling beverages and food items, and cross-selling complementary products to enhance the guest experience and support café sales.
- Perform all cashier functions, including opening the cash register daily, processing purchases, providing change, balancing and closing the register, preparing the daily bank deposit, and ordering change as needed.
- Prepare food and beverages according to patron orders while adhering to proper food handling procedures, food safety standards, and applicable government regulations.
- Ensure quality, quantity, freshness, and visual appeal of all food and beverage items served.
- Maintain accurate inventory control, including completing required documentation, to ensure sufficient products and supplies are available to prepare all menu items each day.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and well-stocked café display and patron area throughout the day.
- Create and maintain attractive product displays and utilize signage to promote café offerings and specials.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by continuously monitoring and cleaning food preparation, service, and guest areas throughout the day.
- Open, close, and secure the café according to established procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum education requirement is high school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience with food service operations preferred.

- Displays customer services skills, strong interpersonal skills, close attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be a person of integrity and character, willing to embrace change and make a positive impact in the lives of patients and co-workers.
- Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner.
- Ability to work with cash and displays knowledge of math skills.
- Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication.
- Must be able to communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
- Displays ability of giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.

- Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
- Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time.
