Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator provides task-based support to ensure high-quality aquatics programming and member experiences. This role assists with program implementation, lesson logistics, communication, and administrative functions. The Coordinator is not a supervisory position but plays a vital role in supporting swim instructors, lifeguards, participants, and families to ensure safe, effective, and mission-driven delivery of YMCA aquatics programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist with the coordination and delivery of group and private swim lessons, swim team activities, and aquatics programs.
· Support lesson logistics, including class rosters, attendance tracking, program setup, and communication with families.
· Provide direct program delivery as needed (teach swim lessons, lifeguard, or assist with aquatic events).
· Assist with the delivery of certification courses (Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, Swim Instructor trainings), including communication with staff and members about class schedules, requirements, and logistics.
· Act as a liaison between families, participants, and the Aquatics Director to ensure positive member experiences and timely resolution of concerns.
· Ensure aquatics safety policies and procedures are upheld in accordance with YMCA standards and state/local regulations.
· Assist with branch events, swim assessments, and special aquatics activities.
· Help maintain an organized inventory of program materials and equipment.
· Maintain current certifications and participate in all required trainings and in-service sessions.
· Support the Aquatics Director with administrative tasks such as data entry, communication to members, and record keeping.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and effective aquatics operation
· Must be at least 18 years old and posess a high school diploma or GED.
· Must have current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid Certification, and O2 Administration.
· Must have YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification or obtain it within
60 days of employment
· Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification preferred.
· Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to interact positively with children, parents, and staff.
· Ability to demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and YMCA core values in all interactions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to stand for extended duration of shift
· Must be able to bend and stoop frequently, and lift at least fifteen pounds
· Must be able to stay in the pool for an extended period of time
· Communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel over the telephone and in person
· Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in water, understanding that significant background noise exists in aquatic environments.
