We are seeking a full-time energetic and dependable Fitness Specialist to support our vibrant Norfolk community. This multifaceted role includes fitness instruction, resident transportation, program support, and concierge services to enhance an engaging and welcoming living experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about community, enjoys working with people, is a proactive team player, and thrives in a flexible environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead wellness and fitness programs for residents in a safe, fun, and engaging manner; promote participation and track attendance.
- Maintain fitness equipment, materials, and facilities; ensure rooms are clean, organized, and ready for use.
- Assist in planning, organizing, setting up, and supporting resident events; provide hands-on support to ensure smooth execution.
- Support Fitness Manager and Resident Life team with operational tasks as needed.
- Cover concierge desk shifts and assist residents with questions, requests, and general support.
- Provide occasional weekday shuttle support.
- Assist in preparing the community newsletter.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service classes; maintain required fitness certifications through ongoing training.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and flexible roles as needed.
- National fitness certification (ACSM, NSCA, AFFA, ACE) preferred; group fitness certifications (SilverSneakers, Chair One, or similar) strongly preferred.
- Minimum 1 - 2 years’ experience in the fitness industry, ideally with seniors, special needs populations, or in a CCRC.
- Ability to work effectively with residents in Healthcare, Assisted Living, and Memory Support, demonstrating patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication, active listening, documentation, and computer skills; able to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Strong judgment, flexibility, and ability to manage priorities in a changing environment, maintaining discretion and integrity regarding residents’ rights and health information.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, assist residents safely, and perform tasks such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, and climbing stairs.
