Scope of the Position:

The Development Associate is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing all aspects of the DMA’s fundraising efforts in close collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO). The Associate manages the resources and activities of the CDO as well as serves as a liaison to the Development Leadership Team and Development staff. In addition to the CDO, the Associate works closely with the Director’s Office, other departments across the Museum as well as the Development Committee and volunteers to generate and sustain philanthropic support for the Museum.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Director’s Office to coordinate donor visits, communication, and follow-up.
  • Coordinates meetings and materials related to Development Department activities.
  • Works with the Development Leadership team to provide support.
  • Serves as primary staff responsible for the administration of monthly reports and tracking of activities.
  • Works with the Development Leadership team to provide donor prospect support for the department and the Office of the Director.
  • Maintains and updates records within the database Raiser’s Edge following meetings with the CDO and Director.
  • Generates in a timely manner status departmental expense reports as they are measured against the operational budget projections.
  • Drafts correspondence, including letters, reports, and high-level presentations.
  • Support the Development Committee and Sub-Committees to help cultivate and steward donors to reinforce the importance of their participation and the Museum’s gratitude for their investment and advocacy.
  • Serves as a key liaison between internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned, including occasional evening or weekend work, related to Museum events.
Requirements

  

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, arts administration, nonprofit management, or a related field required. 
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of professional experience in fundraising, development, nonprofit administration, or a related field. 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting senior leadership (e.g., C-suite or executive-level staff), including strategy facilitation, schedule planning, meeting coordination, and communications. 
  • Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems required; experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising software strongly preferred. 

Key Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with a cultural organization preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to prepare and distribute business materials, reports, presentations and the like that convey information effectively and make a compelling case for support.
  • Familiarity with fundraising operations, donor stewardship practices, and development reporting preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with Development staff, peers, board members, volunteers, and donors providing them with support as well as important updates.
  • A motivated self-starter with excellent time management skills who demonstrates willingness to take on new opportunities and challenges.
  • The collaborative skills necessary to gain the trust and confidence of the CDO, Director, Trustees, Senior Staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality, using discretion with sensitive information and respect for a donor’s right to privacy.
  • Ability and experience to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and to prioritize efficiency.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; Raiser’s Edge software a plus.
