Position Summary:
This role will assist the Barber-Nichols (BN) IT team with basic IT support tasks, hardware and software troubleshooting, and documentation. The IT Intern will gain hands-on experience in a corporate IT environment while contributing to the daily operations and overall efficiency of the IT department.
This role is a full time 3-month opportunity starting June 8th.
Key Results Areas:
1. IT Helpdesk Support:
- Provide first-level technical assistance to employees by troubleshooting basic hardware, software, and network issues.
- Assist in documenting and resolving IT support tickets under the supervision of IT staff.
- Help maintain the IT ticketing system by ensuring accurate documentation of reported issues and solutions.
- Direct unresolved technical issues to appropriate IT staff for further investigation.
- Assist in creating and updating IT documentation, including common troubleshooting steps and best practices.
- Participate in IT projects by providing research, testing, and implementation support.
- Identify and suggest improvements for IT support processes and workflows.
2. IT Account Management and Equipment Deployment
- Assist with computer and peripheral setup for new employees, including imaging, hardware configuration, and software installation.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of workstations, printers, and other IT-related equipment.
- Support IT staff with inventory tracking of IT assets and consumables.
- Support IT staff in managing user accounts and permissions according to company policies.
- Assist in the onboarding and offboarding process.
- Help maintain documentation for account management procedures.
3. Cybersecurity Awareness and Compliance
- Assist in monitoring and reporting potential security threats, such as phishing attempts or suspicious activity.
- Support IT staff in ensuring compliance with company security policies and best practices.
- Help with maintaining and updating cybersecurity awareness materials for employees.
- Assist in basic security-related tasks, such as software patching and system updates.
- Participate in security audits and documentation efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience, and abilities required.
Education and Training:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university as a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience:
- Basic understanding of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, and general networking concepts.
- Prior IT support experience (helpdesk, school IT department, personal projects) is a plus but not required.

Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly range for this role is $20-24/hr. This range represent the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
