A Panel Shop Lead assembles, wires, and tests industrial control panels and electrical cabinets based on schematics and blueprints. They install components like PLCs, relays, and drives, often performing mechanical fabrication tasks such as drilling and cutting wire ducts. Common tasks include wiring, labeling, and troubleshooting electrical systems. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble electrical components, panels, and enclosures according to BOM (Bill of Materials) and layout diagrams.
  • Cut, strip, crimp, and terminate wiring; install din rail, wire duct, and components. Layout panels, punch holes, drill and tap holes.
  • Power up panels for testing, validating wiring integrity, voltage, and functionality, often involving AC/DC power systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical components and systems to ensure conformance with design specifications and electrical codes.
  • Troubleshooting of issues affecting the functionality of the panels (PLC’s, controls)
  • Quality inspections of panels for defects.
  • Mark up, review, and follow electrical drawings and schematics. 
  • Quality inspection and testing of control panels to meet standards.
  • Estimation of Control Panel costs for project budgeting
  • Coordination with Project Managers on panel design, built materials, costing, and troubleshooting. 
  • Assist in Assembly production shop in the Electrical department.
Requirements
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in panel building, electrical assembly, or industrial maintenance. 
  • High school diploma, often with post-secondary education in electrical or mechanical technology. 
  • Ability to perform Administrative functions (scheduling, data entry, spreadsheets) an asset. 
  • Ability to read schematics and electrical drawings.
  • AutoCAD experience would be an asset.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools for metal fabrication, such as drilling and cutting.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.

Salary Description
$33 - $38 / hourly
