This is a full-time, permanent clinical position with an onsite/hybrid schedule. Travel to other sites within Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance—such as Columbia, Lawrenceburg, or Spring Hill—will be required when providing clinic coverage.
Patient Care Coordinator will be closely working with a provider and taking on a variety of responsibilities to ensure a smooth and positive experience for both the provider and patients. Below, you'll find the key duties and responsibilities related to supporting your assigned provider.
Responsibilities:
Medical Assistant
- Communicating effectively with patients, physicians, and other staff members in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assist with removal of splints, sutures, and dressings as directed by physician.
- Prepare and assist provider with procedures if needed such as aspirations and/or injections.
- Updating patient’s chart under the direction of the provider during patient visits, recording detailed information into the electronic health records (EHR) system, including medical histories, physical examinations, and treatment plans while using medical terminology and abbreviations.
- Entering E&M/CPT codes and submitting charges to the coding department.
- Document and provide patients with clear instructions regarding their care plan.
- Provide patient education and review home exercise programs.
- Review patient charts for completeness.
Authorization
- Promptly identify any errors or other issues in precert and test/surgery scheduling.
- Communicate with insurance payer representatives, patients, and employees to ensure timely and accurate surgery schedule. This would include Commercial plans, Medicare/Medicare HMO plans, Medicaid/Medicaid HMO plans, and BCBSTN, etc.
- Operate within established guidelines and protocols, including providing backup documentation such as office notes, test reports, etc. to carriers.
- Obtains pre-certification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to test or procedure
- Manages patient insurance verification by utilizing multiple insurance websites, phone, fax, and other methods as needed
- Timely follow up on all submitted verifications/pre-certifications
- Notifies the physician regarding denials, and approvals, etc.
Scheduling
- Coordinate and schedule procedures, follow-up appointments as designated by physicians
- Interact with patients’ physicians and other staff both with the Clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate timely and responsive information
- Ensure efficient telephone communication
- Schedule mutually acceptable appointment times for patients and physicians using computerized scheduling system
- Notifies the physician regarding patient cancelation or reschedules
- Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Understanding medical terminology
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures experience with an EHR or NextGen is a plus
