CED is well situated in Downers Grove, Illinois - we are located a commuter train ride west of Chicago and a short drive from farmland.
CED's current salary range for this role is $20.00 to $26.50 / hour. At CED, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, location and geography. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program. JOB SUMMARY:
The Assembler / Cartridge Loader is responsible for accurately, carefully and compliantly preparing small explosive cartridges to be used in various finished goods and products.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Following established instructions and safety protocols, precisely weigh explosives materials to specified tolerances using digital measuring equipment
- Mix epoxy and apply to parts using pneumatic syringe per work instructions
- Complete all prep and assembly using various hand and pneumatic tools
- Complete all measuring, pouring, pressing and drying operations in strict compliance with on-the-job and written training, and adhering to safety instructions and precautions
- Comply with dress code requirements (e.g. cotton content of work wear) to ensure personal and departmental safety
- Perform other assembly tasks as required
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, BACM, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
- Special projects and other duties / responsibilities as assigned
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:

EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Some experience within a manufacturing environment is preferred
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lawful US person (ITAR restrictions)
- Must be eligible to possess explosive under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices.
- Able to work carefully on small, detailed parts that require steady hands and accurate placement
- Utmost attention to detail
- Comply with safety regulations related to working with explosive / energetic materials
- Knowledge of PPE requirements
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Impeccable fine motor skills to work with small tools and parts. Able to sit or stand throughout the shift. Capable of lifting to 35 lbs. without mechanical assistance occasionally, and greater than 35 lbs. with mechanical assistance. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives, with appropriate risk mitigation.
