Description
The Material Sorter sorts scrap metal such as Aluminum, Wire and Brass. They will also feed material into equipment while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recognize and organize different grades of materials appropriately
- Prepare material for the chopper, shredder, or baler to prepare for finished goods or next step in processing
- Feed material into the chopper or shredder
- Tag material into finished goods inventory
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment
- Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment, as required
- Follow dress code and ensure proper PPE is worn at all times
Requirements
Job Requirements/Skills
- Knowledge of Non-Ferrous and Ferrous metals
- Ability to sort materials by hand or using hand tools
- Ability to shovel materials
- Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision
Education/Experience
- Material handling and sorting
- Forklift, skid steer, or front-end loader experience preferred
Physical Requirements
- Standing for long periods of time
- Able to lift 50 lbs. continuously
- Able to shovel heavy materials
- Tolerate a dusty environment
- Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather
