Description

The Facilities Floater plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall appearance, functionality, and safety of the campus facilities. This position involves a variety of tasks related to building maintenance, repair, cleaning, and event support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Building Maintenance and Repair:
    • Patch and repair walls and ceilings using drywall and joint compound.
    • Paint or stain various surfaces including drywall, concrete, wood, and metal.
    • Perform minor fixes such as carpet and tile repair, changing light bulbs, and replacing ceiling tiles.
    • Address plumbing issues such as repairing toilets, showers, sinks, and unclogging drains.
    • Inspect and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Grounds and Outdoor Maintenance:
    • Maintain gardens and lawns by planting, fertilizing, weeding, and applying pesticides.
    • Operate maintenance equipment such as shovels, rakes, mowers, and chainsaws.
    • Perform maintenance on irrigation systems including winterizing procedures.
  • Event Setup and Support:
    • Set up and take down tables, chairs, trash cans, stages, and drape piping for campus events.
    • Assist with appliance installation and furniture assembly as needed.
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing:
    • Perform general cleaning tasks in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, classrooms, offices, living spaces, and common areas.
    • Restorative floor work including vacuuming, mopping, buffing, stripping, and waxing.
    • Empty trash containers and maintain cleanliness throughout assigned buildings.
  • General Support and Operations:
    • Handle mail delivery from the post office to the mailroom.
    • Unload delivery trucks and distribute supplies accordingly.
    • Report safety hazards or maintenance deficiencies to the Facilities Manager or lead custodian promptly.

Essential Employee Designation:

  • This position has been designated as essential at Keuka College. This means that, in the event of significant incidents or major events, you may be required to be on-site to ensure our operations continue smoothly.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Proven experience in facility maintenance, repair work, and groundskeeping.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various types of equipment and tools safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and report issues.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing, walking, stretching, bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pulling. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time. 
  • Must be physically able to operate power equipment. 
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
