GENERAL SUMMMARY OF DUTIES:

An infusion Coordinator serves as the central liaison between patients, providers, and clinical staff to schedule, authorize, and manage infusion therapies. They ensure all documentation, insurance pre-authorizations, and logistical resources are secured for treatment. This role improves patient flow, manages scheduling, and maintains accurate records in Electronic Health Records (EHR).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Intake & Authorization: Initiate and obtain pre-authorizations and pre-certifications from insurance companies for infusion treatments. 
  • Scheduling & Logistics: Coordinate patient appointment scheduling with nursing staff, providers, and pharmacy, tracking and managing inventory. 
  • Patient & Provider Liaison: Act as the primary contact for patients regarding appointment guidance and coordinate with clinicians for treatment plans. 
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain, document, and verify insurance benefits, patient financial responsibility forms, and treatment plans in EHR. 
  • Administrative Support: Support the infusion administration process, addressing billing issues, and managing incoming referrals. 


Requirements

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent is required; some positions may require a medical assistant certification.


EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in a healthcare setting, specifically with insurance pre-authorizations, medical terminology, and EHR Systems. 

  • Clinical Knowledge: Familiarity with medication, terminology, and infusion therapies. 
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, doctors, and insurance representatives. 
  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks, such as scheduling and inventory control, in a fast-paced environment. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience specifically within an infusion setting. 
  • Experience in a nursing role or as a clinical coordinator. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Proficiency in EHR systems, medical terminology, and strong communication skills to interact with patients and providers. Previous experience in a medical office, home infusion, or specialty pharmacy. 


ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office setting, well-ventilated and well-lighted. 


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Sitting/standing for long periods of time. Requires eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Must be able to view computer screens for long periods. Occasional stress-related to workload and customers with problems.
