Cornerstone Family Healthcare is actively recruiting for a Senior Counselor to join our growing team in Newburgh. 

RATE OF PAY/SALARY: $35.00 per hour, plus a sign on bonus for eligible external candidates 

WORK LOCATION(S): 3 Commercial Pl, Newburgh, NY

STATUS: Full-time


Schedule: Monday-Friday 6AM-2PM

General Purpose:

The purpose of the Senior Counselor is to provide case management, substance use disorder counseling, advocacy, and clinical support services to an assigned caseload. The Senior Counselor participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to support participant recovery, wellness, medication-assisted treatment engagement, relapse prevention, and overall stabilization. These goals are accomplished through providing individual, crisis intervention, care coordination, and contributing to a safe, therapeutic, trauma-informed treatment environment. 


Description of Duties:

  • Provide case management and advocacy services to an assigned caseload.
  • Provides consultation and guidance to counseling staff regarding documentation standards, medication-assisted treatment, and participant care coordination.
  • Serves as a role model to counseling staff by demonstrating ethical, professional, and respectful conduct. 
  • Provides leadership and oversight to counseling staff to ensure compliance with OASAS, SAMSHA, and agency standards.
  • Participates in monitoring the therapeutic environment to ensure that the behavioral guidelines are followed, a therapeutic milieu is maintained and professional relationships remain positive.
  • Coordinates and distributes Saturday counselor overtime schedules and the monthly Counselor on Duty schedule, while providing operational and clinical support to the Counselor on Duty as needed.
  • Provides individual, group, and psychoeducational counseling related to substance use disorders, medication-assisted treatment and relapse prevention.
  • Assists in conducting intake assessments to determine participant treatment needs and level of care; collaborates with participants and interdisciplinary staff to develop and implement individualized treatment, transition, discharge, and continuing care plans in accordance with OASAS and OTP requirements.
  • Monitors and maintains the toxicology supply room to ensure adequate inventory and organization.
  • Ensures the maintenance of accurate, complete, timely, and high-quality participant records that comply with external regulatory standards and agency policy and procedure
  • Generates and distributes OASAS reports and compliance due reports to counseling staff and assists with follow-up regarding overdue clinical documentation requirements. 
  • Complies with 42 CFR confidentiality and HIPAA privacy and security regulations. 
  • Works cooperatively with other staff as a member of the interdisciplinary team. 
  • Provides support to the Clinical Supervisor with administrative and clerical tasks as needed.
  • Provides outreach, education and prevention services to the local community, schools, groups and agencies as necessary and as provided by management staff. 
  • Provides crisis intervention and management, generating referrals to agency or external mental health providers or other service providers, as indicated.
  • Attends and participate in weekly department, monthly All Staff and other required meetings. 
  • Conducts chart audits and documentation reviews to monitor compliance with OASAS, Medicaid, Joint Commission, and agency standards and assists staff in correcting documentation deficiencies. 
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all clinical, administrative, and general policies and procedures as outlined in the Cornerstone Family Healthcare Policy Procedure Manual and Employee Handbook. OASAS regulations and Joint Commission Standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all aspects of Cornerstone Family Healthcare including, but not limited to, participant confidentiality, financial, and employee relations. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
