As the Director, Hazardous Waste Operations, you will lead and grow our hazardous waste business across multiple markets nationwide. This role is responsible for developing scalable operating strategies, driving operational performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building high-performing teams that deliver safe, efficient, and profitable hazardous waste services.
You will partner closely with Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Transportation, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Finance leaders to support business growth, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence across the hazardous waste platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all hazardous waste operations across the organization, including hospital-based programs, route-based services, transportation coordination, and disposal partnerships.
- Develop and implement scalable operating models, standardized procedures, staffing strategies, and performance metrics that support growth, consistency, and service excellence.
- Drive operational performance by improving safety, service execution, labor productivity, route efficiency, customer retention, vendor performance, and operating profitability.
- Oversee hazardous waste service delivery within healthcare systems and customer locations while ensuring operational readiness for new implementations, expansions, and transitions.
- Partner with Transportation and Supply Chain teams to optimize routing strategies, fleet utilization, scheduling efficiency, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Manage transportation, treatment, recycling, and disposal vendor relationships while ensuring accountability for service levels, compliance, responsiveness, and pricing.
- Partner closely with Environmental Health & Safety leadership to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing hazardous waste operations.
- Support audits, inspections, corrective actions, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety and regulatory compliance.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing operations team by establishing clear goals, accountability, and performance expectations.
- Recruit, coach, and retain operational leaders while supporting succession planning and organizational growth.
- Serve as the operational subject matter expert for hazardous waste services and provide strategic leadership that supports long-term business objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Operations, Environmental Sciences, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in hazardous waste, environmental services, transportation, logistics, healthcare support services, or another regulated industry.
- Experience leading multi-site operations across multiple geographic regions.
- Strong understanding of hazardous waste operations, transportation, logistics, routing, and service delivery models.
- Proven success improving operational performance, driving process improvements, and scaling business operations.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing operational budgets, performance metrics, and profitability.
- Experience leading large field-based teams and developing operational leadership talent.
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to travel up to 50% as business needs require.
