Crane Operations Trainer
Description

Stephenson Equipment, Inc (SEI), an industry leader in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and New York providing sales, rentals, parts and service for construction equipment, cranes, paving, road building and road maintenance equipment, has an immediate need for Crane Operations Trainer at our Harrisburg, PA location.


This position teaches NCCCO Crane Operator, Signalperson and Rigger certification classes, administers NCCCO practical exams, provides hands on training, and assists in the development of training materials as needed. 


Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Teach NCCCO crane operator, signalperson and rigger certification classes.
  • Train new crane operators and semi-experienced operators how to operate a crane.
  • Teach basic crane operator classes.
  • Teach basic rigging and hand-signal classes.
  • Perform NCCCO practical exams.
  • Assist in the development of training materials.
  • Lay out and set up practical exam courses (requires 2 - 30’ and 2 - 100’ tape measures, spirit level, and hammer).
  • Set up cranes for practical exams. 
  • Act as a practical exam test site coordinator when needed.
  • Travel to training locations as needed. 
  • Work may include odd hours and weekends as needed.


Position Core Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge and skill in the operation of hydraulic and lattice boom cranes.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn various software programs.  
  • Knowledge of jobsite situations as related to cranes. 
  • Communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of crane set-up issues (i.e. reasons for cribbing, importance of being level, power line danger, underground pipes, etc.).  
  • Knowledge in crane load chart terminology.  
  • Knowledge in wire rope terminology.  
  • Knowledge in all things related to rigging.

Requirements

  

The best fit to our team will have:

  • High school diploma or GED. Degree and or classes from technical school preferred. Minimum of 10 years of crane operator experience in various makes and models of hydraulic and lattice cranes. NCCCO Certification or ability to obtain in: all four mobile crane categories, overhead cranes, tower cranes, ABC cranes, signalperson, Rigger I and II, lift director. NCCCO Certification or ability to obtain in practical examiners accreditation in mobile, tower, articulating, overhead, signalperson, and rigger.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Work environment is varies from classroom instruction to outdoor instruction. Combination of sitting and standing. Noise will vary from quiet in the classroom to loud during outdoor instruction.
