PURPOSE OF POSITION: As part of the laboratory team performs a variety of moderate, waived and, limited high complexity testing in a clinic or laboratory setting. Perform regular quality checks, ensure instrument maintenance is up to date.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following functions have been determined by Ideal Option to be essential to the successful performance of this position which includes but is not limited to:
- Analyze patient specimens by performing and verifying diagnostic medical laboratory tests and following department protocols.
- Make independent decisions relating to patient testing and prioritization of testing.
- Process, package and ship specimens to be transported to main laboratory for further testing.
- Perform and report quality control on all instrumentations before reporting test results following established quality control policies and procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of instruments and equipment and documents appropriately.
- Verify all normal and abnormal results, correlates abnormal test results with other patient data. Notify appropriate medical staff of test results.
- Maintains patients' medical records and verify accuracy.
- Assist in ordering laboratory supplies and necessities to maintain appropriate level of inventory.
- Perform and report laboratory tests in chemistry, serology, urinalysis, and hematology departments, other areas as trained
- Comply with national PHI laws including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Maintain continual sustained attendance.
- Complete eight hours of Ideal Option approved continuing education annually
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- 60 semester hours of which includes 24 semester hours of science courses

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Previous Medical or Laboratory Experience
- 1 year working within the laboratory at Ideal Option or 2 years other clinical laboratory experience.
