JOB SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant for psychiatry provides information, services, and assistance for all psychiatry services. Staff supported by this position include psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurse.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate scheduling for psychiatrists - maintain calendars in Cerner, make schedule changes and communicate changes with clients and staff.
  • Monitor schedules for compliance with BH policy regarding participation in BH tx/psychiatry.
  • Prepare paper client records for psychiatrist each day.
  • Scan progress notes, enter diagnosis, medication and maintain charts for psychiatrist.
  • Facilitate and document communication between psychiatrist, clinicians and patients.
  • Assist clinicians and psychiatrists with completing prior authorizations, disability paperwork, referral letters and other correspondence.
  • Provides support to psychiatry staff and coordinates psychotropic medications requests for refill.
  • Responsible for prior authorization of psychotropic medications.
  • Assist with psychiatrist access to Cerner.
  • Maintain Medicare/Medicaid billing spreadsheet, send to billing staff weekly.
  • Assist with Prescription Drug Monitoring Program compliance
  • Attend all interdisciplinary staff meetings.
  • Manage schedule in conjunction with the psychiatrists’ schedules.
  • Attend HIV specific training annually, cultural competency training annually and other applicable trainings.
  • Abide by all state, health district and agency policies regarding confidentiality of patient information.
  • Coordinates work processes with other program managers.
  • Assists psychiatry staff with telehealth.
  • Gives injections of psychiatric or MAT medications
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about refills, appointments and referrals.
  • Schedules appointments and follow-up appointments; verifying times with patients; preparing charts and consent forms.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Medical Assistant Certification - License / Licensure: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 1-year in Behavioral Health setting.
