POSITION SUMMARY
The Advanced Manufacturing – Sr. Design & Process Development Engineer is accountable for the design, development, implementation and optimization of manufacturing equipment, processes, tooling, and automation systems to ensure efficient and cost-effective production. This position is dedicated to developing and refining automation concepts, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing techniques. The engineer works in close partnership with sales, operations, quality, supply chain and end customers to facilitate new product launches, validate processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Demonstrating exceptional technical proficiency and practical problem-solving skills, this role contributes significantly to advancing manufacturing capabilities, fostering innovation, and maintaining robust, scalable production systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following.
- Design manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and automation systems using 3D CAD software
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings, bills of material, and design documentation.
- Develop concepts from initial requirements through final implementation and production support.
- Collaborate with controls and robotics engineers to integrate mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
- Research and develop automation solutions.
- Support machining, fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototype and production equipment.
- Assist with automation project management.
- Promote cross-functional team communication.
- Evaluate and improve existing manufacturing equipment to increase safety, quality, throughput, and reliability.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software
- Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and engineering documentation
- Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Strong mechanical design and machine design capabilities
- Simulation software – e.g., FANUC Roboguide
- Understanding of machine safety principles including risk assessments, safeguarding, interlocked guarding, and applicable machine safety standards
- · Strong grasp of manufacturing principles, including DFM and DFA
- Concept development, detailed design, and engineering drafting
- · Knowledgeable in PLC/HMI applications
- · Experience with CNC machining equipment preferred, including FANUC-controlled machining centers and Robodrill platforms
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent troubleshooting and thinking skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work with hand tools
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in fabrication, manufacturing equipment, or equivalent
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and try new ideas
- Desire to function collaboratively and drive team growth
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or minimum 5 years equivalent automation/integrator experience
Additional Requirements
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects from concept through implementation Strong written and verbal communication skills
