Position Summary


The Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying, developing, and maintaining customer relationships within an assigned territory supporting one branch location. This role focuses on generating new business opportunities, growing existing accounts, promoting company products and services, and delivering exceptional customer service.

The Sales Manager serves as the primary company representative in the field, working closely with customers, contractors, builders, distributors, and other industry partners to expand market presence and achieve sales and profitability goals. This position requires strong relationship-building skills, business development expertise, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with branch leadership and operational teams.


Key Responsibilities


Sales & Business Development

  • Identify, prospect, and close new business opportunities while maintaining strong relationships with existing customers.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to meet and exceed revenue and margin goals.
  • Manage an assigned sales territory and develop plans to maximize market penetration.
  • Utilize CRM tools and sales reports, including sales analysis, retention reports, and sales history, to drive activity and growth.
  • Promote company products, services, pricing strategies, and sales initiatives.
  • Expand market presence within the building products, construction, and distribution industries.
  • Conduct customer visits, presentations, product demonstrations, and business development meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling, and account expansion.

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Maintain consistent communication with customers to ensure satisfaction, retention, and long-term partnerships.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Address customer issues promptly and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Communicate with customers regarding order discrepancies, delivery issues, product concerns, and service-related matters.
  • Support customer retention efforts through proactive outreach and relationship management.

Quality Assurance

  • Report customer feedback regarding product quality, damage, warranty concerns, or order discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control and Operations teams to resolve customer issues.
  • Support warranty processes and customer issue resolution activities.
  • Assist with customer service recovery efforts and deliveries when needed.

Inventory & Operations Support

  • Coordinate with branch leadership regarding large projects, bulk orders, and customer forecasting needs.
  • Assist in managing excess and slow-moving inventory through sales initiatives.
  • Communicate accurate lead times and product availability for special orders.
  • Support inventory accuracy by communicating customer demand trends and product movement.
  • Collaborate with warehouse, production, and customer service teams to ensure timely order fulfillment.

Safety

  • Operate company vehicles safely and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to proper lifting, handling, and transportation guidelines.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and report unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Maintain compliance with company driving and vehicle policies.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with branch employees, General Managers, operations teams, and company leadership.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude in all customer and employee interactions.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to support business objectives.
  • Demonstrate accountability, initiative, and a willingness to work independently or extended hours as business needs require.

Financial Performance

  • Develop strategies to achieve and exceed sales, revenue, and margin targets.
  • Support pricing strategies that maximize profitability and customer retention.
  • Monitor product handling concerns to reduce waste, scrap, damage, and shrinkage.
  • Maintain awareness of branch expenses and contribute to cost-control efforts.
  • Provide accurate forecasting and pipeline management through CRM reporting.




Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 3–5 years of outside sales, territory management, account management, or business development experience required.
  • Experience in the building products, construction, manufacturing, or distribution industry strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales and profitability goals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
  • Ability to drive for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry product samples, marketing materials, and other sales-related items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to visit customer locations, construction sites, warehouses, and branch facilities as needed.
