We are currently seeking a Sheet Metal Apprentice for our Melbourne prefabircation shop. These helpers will be eligible for our in-house, FREE apprentice program! Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction in which the workers learn the aspects of a trade, while they earn a living. 1-2 years of duct installation experience preferred but will train the right candidate. The role of an apprentice is highly hands-on, focusing on skill development and readiness for more advanced responsibilities. Dedication, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are critical to success in this position. Employer conducts background checks, motor vehicle checks and drug screening. This is a safety sensitive position

Requirements

Learning and Training

1. On-the-Job Training: Work under the guidance of experienced mechanics to learn techniques for cutting, shaping, and installing sheet metal.

2. Learn blueprint reading and how to read specs

3. Tool Usage: Learn how to safely and efficiently operate hand tools, power tools, and machinery like shears, brakes, and rollers.

Assisting with Fabrication

1. Measuring and Marking: Assist with measuring and marking materials according to specifications.

2. Cutting and Forming: Help cut, shape, and assemble sheet metal components.

3. Material Handling: Transport and organize materials for fabrication and installation.

Supporting Installation

1. Ductwork Installation: Assist in installing HVAC duct systems, vents, and hoods in commercial buildings.

2. Metal Roofing: Support the installation of metal roofs, flashing, and gutters.

3. Fastening Components: Secure sheet metal parts using screws, bolts, rivets, or welds.

Maintenance and Repair

1. Inspection: Observe and assist in inspecting installations for damage or wear.

2. Repair Tasks: Help with basic repairs, such as replacing damaged sections or resealing joints.

Safety and Compliance

1. Safety Practices: Follow OSHA regulations and workplace safety guidelines.

2. PPE Usage: Wear personal protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles, and helmets, during tasks.

3. Hazard Awareness: Assist in maintaining a safe and clean workspace by properly handling tools and materials.

Team Collaboration

1. Supporting the Crew: Provide assistance to mechanics and other team members to ensure projects stay on schedule.

2. Learning Communication: Develop communication skills to effectively interact with supervisors and colleagues.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance

1. Tool Care: Clean, maintain, and store tools and equipment after use.

2. Equipment Setup: Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment at job sites.

Essential Functions:

  1. Climbing up and down ladders
  2. Push, pull and frequently carry objects as tools, materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  3. Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. – Stand and walk for long periods of time.
  4. See and hear well with or without correction to avoid safety hazards to themselves and others.
  5. Must be 18 or older
  6. Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  7. Must have clean and valid driver's license or permit and/or reliable transportation
  8. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to complete Form I-9 upon hire.
  9. Employment subject to E-Verify confirmation.
  10. Overtime and weekend availability, regular attendance
  11. Work in heat and various other weather conditions
