Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Parents As Teachers Supervisor, the Parent Educator provides parent education, developmental information, and family support to parents through personal home visits to promote the health development of children from pregnancy to kindergarden. Parent educators utilize the nationally recognized “Parents as Teachers”curriculum to deliver quality home-based early childhood education, developmentally age appropriate resources of effective child – parent interactions techniques.The ideal candidate will embody Gunnison County Juvenile and Health and Human Services values and approaches, which includes: Equity, Diversity and Inclusive practice, Positive Youth Development, Understanding Risk and Protective Factors, cultural awareness, a 2Generational approach and being trauma responsive with both young people, families and community members. This position is grant-funded with flexible scheduling required. 


Pay Rate

The hourly range is from $28.53 to $32.49, depending on experience, plus partial benefits.

This position is 15 hours per week.

*The County pays monthly on the last week day of the month.*

Requirements
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must have reliable vehicle
  • Must pass a state and federal criminal background check.
  • Must complete ICS 100 and ICS 700 within the first year of employment..
  • Special certification as appropriate and required for expanded functions.
  • Current CPR and First Aid – or obtained within first 6 months of hire
  • Ability to pass TB Test
  • Attend Foundational and Model Implementation training for certification for children ages 0-3
  • Attend Foundational 2 certification for children ages 3-5


Qualifications/Education

  • A baccalaureate degree in early childhood development or related field is preferred; or-
  • Minimum of 60 college hours in early childhood development with a minimum of two years experience directly working with young children under the age of 5 preferred; or –
  • Certificate in Early childhood education, Elementary Education, or 5 years experience in preschool setting preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the department finds appropriate and acceptable.
  • Public Health experience is preferred.
  • Recent pertinent continuing education.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English is required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
