GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position is a part of the Clinical team. This position performs radiographic procedures of plain film x-ray and computerized tomography at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of technical details. Primary responsibility for this position will be to produce radiographs (x-rays) and CT images to aid in the diagnosis of a medical problem. This position may also be cross trained in the role of a medical assistant to be used as an integral part of the clinical team. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicates with patient explaining the diagnostic process.
  • Uses radiology equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the physician.
  • Performs radiology image capture following established radiologist protocols.
  • Reviews and evaluates images to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes prior to sending to PACS.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the technical skills required in radiologic procedures ensuring radiation safety.
  • Possess the ability to manipulate x-ray equipment.
  • Has a working knowledge of how to select and manipulate exposure factors.
  • Ability to lift, move or transport patients as their condition dictates and as defined by the essential functions of this job.
  • Performs related duties of a Medical Assistant to include but not limited to: vital signs of blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, respirations, height and weight.
  • Using aseptic technique, performs routine venipuncture or other specimen collection for the purposes of in-house and send-out testing. Performs intravenous (IV) insertion for the purposes of administration of intravenous contrast.
  • Able to recognize and act upon emergency situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Supports all providers in the care of patients.
  • Ensures all required documentation is part of the patient’s medical record for billing purposes.
  • Demonstrates professional and effective communication with colleagues.
  • Attend and successfully complete all required training programs; participate in ongoing conference calls, webinars and other professional development opportunities. Maintain KS RT licensure and/or ARRT and required CEU’s each calendar year.
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with referring agencies and other providers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  
  • Current Kansas Radiology Technologist license and ARRT(R) or ARRT(CT) required.
  • BLS/BCLS (AHA) required
  • Prior work experience as a Radiology Technologist preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, as travel may be necessary.

  • Must be computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products and be proficient with the Electronic Health Record software.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to both stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to lift, push, or pull twenty-five (25) pounds independently or greater than twenty-five (25) pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent. Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel may be required.
