Job Description
The Director of Emergency Services provides 24/7 strategic and clinical oversight for the Emergency/EMS Department and Disaster Management. This leadership role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care by driving performance metrics, managing department budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading emergency preparedness initiatives. This position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing, directing, and supervising the Emergency Room/EMS staff.
- Responsible for staff performance, recruitment, retention, and development.
- Responsible for preparing staff schedules and other related documentation.
- Responsible for the overall operation of Emergency Services/Disaster Management.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Defines and maintains standards of nursing practice in the Emergency Room and the EMS Department.
- Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services/EMS and otherservices under his or her supervision.
- Verifies employee credentials under his or her supervision.
- Collaborates with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improvedpatient care and staff development.
- Plans, develops, and implements a budget process for staffing and services rendered.
- Evaluates the quality and cost effectiveness of staffing and services within the goals of the hospital.
- Maintains professional communication with staff, physicians, administration, and all internal andexternal customers. Demonstrates leadership skills to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Ensures that quality nursing/EMS care is delivered to all patients on assigned nursing/EMS units, inaccordance with the philosophy, policies and procedures, and program plans of the hospital; ensurespatient care standards, orientation, and continuing education standards are followed.
- Managing and assisting with clinical functions.
- Pediatric Quality Care Coordinator. Responsible for the pediatric quality metrics set forth by SDEPplan.
- Attend Regional Pediatric Emergency Care quality improvement meetings.
- Communicate quality improvement through Pedi Chairman and QAPI meetings.
- Other roles and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise and knowledge in assigned nursing/EMS units.
- Demonstrated computer skills.
- Effective oral/written communication skills.
- Demonstrates understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age, specific needs, and plans age specific treatment and care.
Education and Experience:
- Current Illinois nursing licensure
- BSN degree preferred
- PALS, ACLS, and/or Neonatal Resuscitation certification may be required
- Minimum of 5 years acute care nursing experience
- Demonstrated administrative/supervisory competence.
Physical Requirements:
Work is of moderate demand.
- Routine lifting requirements fewer than 25 pounds.
- Occasional lifting requirements of medium to heavy demand.
- Standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching required; may be required to assist with and/or transport patients.
- Works inside.

Salary Description
$85,000 - $128,000 year - Depending on Experience
