Full-Time Assistant Program Director (Hell's Kitchen)

The YWCA of the City of New York (YWCA NYC) is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We are a multiracial social justice organization dedicated to addressing issues that emerge at the intersection of race, class and gender. We reach more than 3,000 New York City youth each year, offering leadership and advocacy training for young women through our high school program, Girls Initiatives, and providing after-school COMPASS and SONYC programs for elementary and middle school students in culturally diverse communities. Through culturally responsive programming and a strong model of youth development, we create pathways for the next generation of leaders to reach for their dreams and drive social change.


Reporting to the Program Director, the Assistant Director provides site-based leadership to support positive youth development and outcomes; meet the needs of families and the school community; and further YWCA NYC’s mission.?A successful Assistant Director will bring a positive youth development lens to their work; ensure compliance with all licensing and funder requirements; maintain accurate program data and records; develop and implement systems to effectively manage program logistics and operations; hold themselves and others accountable for program results; provide close supervision of all activities and staff; and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.


Salary Range: $25-$30 per hour

Start Date: August 1st


Key Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Support Program Director in implementation of program and operational goals and tasks
  • Daily operations, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment
  • Manage logistics, staffing, and supplies
  • Quality and compliance

Staff Development and Supervision

  • Provide guidance, supervision and support to staff
  • Evaluate staff and coach for performance improvement
  • Support the development and implementation of staff training plans and onboarding of new team members.
  • Act as Inclusion Coordinator to ensure inclusion of students with disabilities, IEP’s, 504, Ell’s

Curriculum and Program Development

  • Ensure program activities align with DYCD COMPASS and SONYC requirements and organizational goals
  • Ensure curriculum aligns with youth development principles, program goals, and student interests
  • Collaborate with team designing Project-Based Learning curricula in alignment with DYCD standards
  • Support the implementation of Universal Design for Learning framework through STEM, Literacy, Physical Activity, Arts, and Leadership components

Communication and Partnerships

  • Foster relationships with parents, guardians, and school administrators
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of innovative family engagement events??
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations and community groups

Operations & Compliance:

  • Manage attendance tracking, data entry, and required documentation in DYCD Connect
  • Lead recruitment and retention efforts to meet DYCD enrollment and attendance targets
  • Coordinate inclusion supports including Individualized Accommodation Plans (IAPs) for participants with diverse needs
  • Ensure compliance with SACC regulations, including supervision ratios, safety protocols, and staff credential requirements
  • Engage in staff meetings, training, and professional development to strengthen delivery and skills
  • Participate in program evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Related college-level coursework or School-Age Child Care credential?
  • 2+ years' experience required plus at least 1+ years of supervisory experience preferred, working in after-school/DYCD funded programs.
  • Strong work ethic and professional values?
  • Familiarity with NYC public schools and/or NYC DYCD programs?and the relevant SACC, DOHMH, NYSCRR and DYCD compliance regulations
  • Strong organizational skills and analytical ability??
  • Commitment to promoting YWCA NYC’s social justice mission and educational and youth development philosophy?
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to youth development, student safety, educational equity, and culturally responsive practices.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • F-07 & S95 Certification (or willingness to obtain).

The hours for this position will fluctuate depending on the needs of the school, general hours of operation can range anywhere between 10:00am – 6:00pm. The Assistant Director role requires occasional travel across New York City.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items under 20 pounds. During fire drills, the employee, unless physically unable, will need to use the stairs to go to ground level from the fourth floor. Typing is required for composing emails and writing reports.
