Job Summary:


The Drafter is responsible for creating, revising, and maintaining detailed engineering and fabrication drawings used in the production of steel components and structural steel products. This position requires strong attention to detail, planning, and advanced mathematics. This position works closely with engineers, project managers, production personnel, and quality teams to ensure drawings are accurate, compliant with customer specifications, and suitable for manufacturing processes..

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Utilize established drafting standards, file management procedures, and drafting techniques to prepare accurate and detailed drawings.

· Create fabrication, assembly, and submittal drawings based on assigned contracts, engineering designs, calculations, customer specifications, and architectural plans.

· Revise and maintain engineering and fabrication drawings throughout the project lifecycle.

· Ensure all drawings meet project requirements, company standards, and customer specifications.

· Meet all project schedule requirements and established deadlines.

· Review self-performed work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with formatting and drafting standards.

· Perform design-related calculations and apply engineering principles as necessary to support drawing development.

· Check final submittal drawings on-screen to verify completeness, clarity, accuracy, and constructability prior to release.

· Collaborate with engineers, project managers, production personnel, and quality teams to resolve drawing discrepancies and support manufacturing operations.

· Maintain organized electronic drawing files and revision histories.

· Support continuous improvement efforts related to drafting processes and documentation.

· Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Required Skills/Abilities:

· Proficiency with AutoCAD or BricsCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Reader.

· Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations, including geometry and trigonometry.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

· Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and architectural plans.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in drafting, design technology, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the metal building industry preferred.
  • Experience with Metal Building Software (MBS) is a plus.
  • Experience with Tekla Structures software is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Office-based position with routine use of a computer.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., bend, squat, kneel, sit, and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
