Position Summary
The Commercial Construction Foreman is responsible for leading field crews and overseeing daily on-site construction activities for a wide variety of commercial construction, tenant improvement, renovation, and maintenance projects. This role ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company standards, project specifications, and quality expectations.
This position is ideal for an experienced, hands-on construction professional with a well-rounded background across multiple trades, including carpentry, drywall, painting, light plumbing, and light electrical work. The Foreman serves as the primary field leader, coordinating labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment while maintaining strong communication with the Project Manager and Superintendent.
Success in this role means projects stay on schedule, crews are productive, safety incidents are minimized, and workmanship consistently exceeds client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Field Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead and supervise field crews on commercial construction projects
- Assign daily tasks and establish clear expectations
- Monitor productivity, workmanship, and job performance
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members
- Enforce company policies and job site standards
- Foster a positive, accountable, team-oriented work environment

2. Multi-Trade Construction Oversight
Coordinate and assist with a variety of commercial construction tasks, including:
- Finish and rough carpentry
- Wood framing and blocking
- Drywall installation, repair, and finishing
- Interior and exterior painting
- Installation of doors, trim, cabinets, and hardware
- Ceiling systems and general finish work
- Light plumbing repairs and fixture installation
- Light electrical work, including device replacement and fixture installation (where permitted)
- General building maintenance and commercial handyman services
- Punch list completion and tenant improvement work
Key Outcome: High-quality work is completed across multiple trades with minimal subcontractor dependency.
3. Project Execution
- Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
- Ensure work is completed according to project scope
- Coordinate sequencing of work with subcontractors and other trades
- Identify potential delays or conflicts and proactively resolve them
- Verify materials, tools, and equipment are available before work begins
- Assist with layout and field problem solving
Key Outcome: Projects remain on schedule with minimal rework.
4. Safety Management
- Enforce OSHA standards and company safety policies
- Conduct daily safety meetings (tailgate meetings)
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions
- Ensure proper PPE and equipment usage
- Report incidents, near misses, and hazards immediately
Key Outcome: Safe job sites with minimal accidents and violations.
5. Quality Control
- Inspect work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
- Maintain high craftsmanship standards across all trades
- Catch deficiencies before inspections
- Coordinate inspections as required
- Ensure completed work reflects company quality expectations
Key Outcome: Work passes inspections the first time with minimal punch list items.
6. Scheduling & Coordination
- Assist the Project Manager with short-term scheduling
- Track daily production and crew performance
- Coordinate deliveries, equipment, and subcontractors
- Communicate delays, weather impacts, or material shortages
- Help prioritize work to meet project milestones
Key Outcome: Accurate field updates and proactive schedule management.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Complete daily reports detailing labor, equipment, production, and issues
- Track crew hours and job cost codes accurately
- Document field changes and unforeseen conditions
- Maintain jobsite logs and photo documentation
Key Outcome: Accurate project documentation and cost tracking.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial construction experience
- 2+ years in a Foreman or Crew Leader role preferred
- Strong background in commercial carpentry and interior finish work
- Experience performing multiple trades, including:
- Carpentry
- Wood framing
- Drywall installation and repair
- Painting
- Light plumbing
- Light electrical work
- General commercial maintenance and handyman repairs
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
- OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple crew members
