Early Intervention Speech Language Pathologist

Reports to: Director, Clarke Pennsylvania, Early Intervention Coordinator, Clarke Pennsylvania

Location: Philadelphia


The Early Intervention speech language pathologist reports to the Early Intervention Coordinator and the Director of Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, Pennsylvania. This is a 215-day contracted position. The Early Intervention therapist is responsible for planning and executing parent coaching therapy sessions and center- based group classroom lessons, using listening and spoken language strategies to promote auditory, speech, and language skills in infants and toddlers who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Early Intervention therapist will be responsible for therapy and center-based activities, parent support and training.


 Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To manage a case load of students and provide parent coaching therapy sessions in the natural environment or center-based programming in accordance with a child’s Individualize Family Service Plan (IFSP)
  • To facilitate parent and children’s interactions with a child-centered curriculum, based on Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards with basic principles of child development
  • To create an environment which fostered independence, confidence, creativity, respect for materials and the people in an environment that is conducive to enjoyment in learning
  • To coach and guide parents in a way that makes them feel comfortable, respected, and supported to learn and engage listening and spoken language strategies to parent their child with hearing loss
  • To support parents and families in the use and understanding of their child’s assistive listening devices
  • and provide basic troubleshooting when necessary
  • To be a facilitator of language learning experiences, a diagnostician in collecting, recording, and reporting data, and observe interactions as they may relate to child-development
  • To observe, record, and report child and family progress through qualitative and quantitative measures
  • To complete and participate in quarterly and annual report meetings, IFSP meetings, and aid in the transition process through the creation of an initial Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • To collaborate with services providers inside and outside of the Clarke Community to ensure families are provided with a valued team approach to Early Intervention services.
  • Create and implement age-appropriate auditory, speech, and language goals through student’s IFSP
  • Participate in Clarke’s Toddler/Early Toddler Group center-based program through lesson planning, material preparations, and collaboration in a co-instructing model

 Other Duties:

  • Active participation in Early Intervention Team meetings, Clarke Pennsylvania all staff meetings
  • Attend professional development meetings as scheduled by the Clarke Pennsylvania Administration staff
  • Attend required Parent Meetings through Clarke Pennsylvania, as to be described by EI Coordinator/Director
  • Complete mandatory annual training and maintain certifications necessary to maintain certification and provide Early Intervention in Philadelphia and surrounding counties
  • Communicate effectively with parents, professionals, and Clarke School staff




Requirements

Education, licenses, certifications, skills and experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology with training in listening and spoken language therapy of children who are deaf of hard of hearing preferred
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association
  • Pennsylvania State Clearances – Child Abuse, FBI, Criminal Background Check

  Physical Demands:

  • Must possess valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle necessary for travel to and from therapy sessions
  • Ability to sit on the floor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to carry up to 40lbs
