Under the direction of the Director of Experience Scholarship, the Experience Scholarship Coordinator supports the effective implementation of the YMCA’s Experience Scholarship Program. This role is responsible for reviewing applications, analyzing financial documentation and making equitable, consistent scholarship determinations in alignment with established guidelines and organizational priorities.
Grounded in the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and connection, the Coordinator applies strong critical thinking and sound judgment while navigating complex and sensitive situations. This role demonstrates emotional maturity by approaching each application with empathy, professionalism and fairness.
The Coordinator serves as a knowledgeable and responsive resource for both applicants and staff, using clear and respectful communication to build trust and understanding. With a strong commitment to inclusion and equitable access, this position helps ensure donor-funded scholarship assistance is distributed responsibly and in a way that advances the YMCA’s mission to serve all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Reviews applications and evaluates supporting documentation to determine eligibility in accordance with established guidelines.
· Interprets a variety of financial and income-related records, identifies missing or inconsistent details and requests additional documentation as required to accurately assess level of eligibility.
· Applies sound judgment to assess individual circumstances and ensure fair, consistent and equitable eligibility decisions.
· Manages a high-volume workload, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet required processing timelines.
· Communicates clearly and compassionately with applicants and staff regarding eligibility decisions, next steps and documentation requirements.
· Maintains accurate and organized records to support decisions and ensure consistency, transparency and accountability.
· Serves as a resource to branch staff, providing guidance and support to ensure consistent application of scholarship policies across the Association.
· At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
· 2+ years of customer service or related experience.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to sit and stand for extended duration of shift.
· Must be able to bend and stoop frequently.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
