Job Title - Teacher of Mathematics and Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) 


Job Duties:

  

The Teacher provides specialized instruction to students with language-based learning disabilities and related learning needs. The Teacher reports to the Principal/Executive Director and is responsible for implementing individualized, evidence-based instructional practices aligned with NJDOE requirements, including the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and all mandates governing instruction for students with disabilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Specialized Instruction - Designs and delivers instruction consistent with the NJDOE TOSD endorsement competencies, including individualized, differentiated, and multisensory approaches appropriate for students with disabilities.
  • IEP Implementation - Plans and implements IEP goals and objectives; provides accommodations, modifications, and specialized strategies; participates in IEP meetings as required.
  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring - Identifies student learning needs; collaborates with CST members; maintains accurate records of student performance using Newgrange systems; monitors progress toward IEP goals.
  • Lesson Planning & Standards Alignment - Develops lesson plans aligned with NJSLS/NJCCCS; adapts curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse learning profiles.
  • Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support - Establishes clear behavioral expectations; maintains a structured, supportive classroom environment; applies developmentally appropriate strategies consistent with TOSD competencies.
  • Collaboration & Communication - Communicates regularly with colleagues, related service providers, and families; participates in multidisciplinary problem-solving; supports coordinated service delivery.
  • Professional Responsibilities - Participates in professional development aligned with NJDOE expectations for special education; attends faculty meetings and staff committees; maintains compliance with school policies and administrative regulations.
  • Student Supervision - Supervises students in hallways, lunchrooms, and on school grounds to ensure safety and well-being.
  • School Activities - Supports extracurricular and co-curricular programming, including Flex Activities, arts programs, clubs, intramurals, and other school-sponsored events.
  • Meeting & Training Requirements - Participates in two designated weekly meetings (approximately 3:00–4:00 p.m.); attends training and performs duties related to school opening/closing.
  • Additional Time Commitments - Attends Back-to-School Night, parent conferences, and other required school events.
  • Other Duties - Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal/Executive Director.


Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Appropriate NJ teaching endorsements:
    • Mathematics (e.g.,  Elementary School Certificate (K-6), Teacher of Supplemental Instruction in Grades K-8, Math 5–8 or Math 7–12, depending on assignment).
    • Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD)
  • NJDOE Criminal History Review (Fingerprinting) is required.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective teaching methods, evidence-based instructional practices, and developmentally appropriate classroom activities for students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain an optimal learning environment that supports academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effective collaboration with colleagues, families, and related service providers.
  • Other qualifications as approved by the Head of School, Principal, or Executive Director.
