Summary:

The Archdiocesan Director(s) of Music care(s) for the sung prayer of the Archdiocesan liturgies through celebration, preparation, evaluation, education and personal ministry. With cooperation and assistance of the Department for Pastoral Ministry, they support the Gospel message through song and oversee the planning and implementation of special liturgies. The Director reports to the Director of Worship.

Position Responsibilities:

  

  • *Oversee, build, and sustain the Archdiocesan Music Ministry, consisting of:

o Archdiocesan Choir

o Cantor [Ministry]

o Instrumentalists

o Small-medium vocal/choral ensembles

  •  Provide pastoral music at special Archdiocesan liturgies; 
  •  Deepen the liturgical understanding and prayer of music ministry members through a program of liturgical formation; 
  • Develop a plan to expand the archdiocesan music ministry membership; 
  •  *Recruit, train, and sustain regular cantors for archdiocesan liturgies; 
  •  Be responsible for music associated with worship for special liturgies of the Archdiocese that include Lumen Gentium Prayer, Rite of Election, Chrism Mass, Presbyteral and Diaconate ordinations.  
  •  Perform (as needed) as accompanist (organ or other instrument), cantor, or choir director per archdiocesan liturgies.
  • Be responsible for coordinating and staffing all liturgies with competent musicians.  
  • Participate in planning the archdiocesan liturgies with the Director for Worship.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church, both in faith and action. 
  •  Advanced degree in either music, pastoral ministry, or liturgy. 
  •  Knowledge and application of Catholic liturgical documents and the role of music in liturgical celebrations.
  •  Experience of a minimum of 5 years in liturgy & music planning, music ministry leadership. 
  •  Experience and proficiency in keyboard skills, voice, and conducting.  
  •  Knowledge and proficiency in orchestration and the use of music notation software. 
  •  Proficient in both traditional and contemporary styles of liturgical music with strong knowledge of Catholic Liturgy. 
  •  Strong management, organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  •  Good oral, written and public speaking skills.
