Description
Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for an OB Ultrasound Tech.
Location: Layton Antelope B
Hours: Wed 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Performs high-quality obstetric ultrasound examinations in an outpatient clinic setting while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Perform second-trimester, anatomy, growth, biophysical profile, and limited OB exams.
- Operates, prepares, and maintains ultrasound equipment and accessories to produce diagnostic-quality images while ensuring patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
- Documents exams accurately according to physician orders and clinic protocols.
- Recognizes, documents, and communicates observed abnormalities or anomalies to the appropriate provider. Take measurements, calculate values, and analyze the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
- Reviews patient medical history and provider instructions to determine appropriate imaging approach and equipment settings.
- Records patient’s medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.
- Explains procedures to patients, address questions, and position patients to obtain optimal images.
- Communicates effectively and compassionately with patients, physicians, and clinical staff.
- Adheres to HIPAA, patient record management policies, infection control, and all clinic policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
- Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) in OB/GYN.
- Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
- Current CPR certification required.
Experience:
- Three years of experience performing ultrasounds is required.
- Minimum six (6) months experience as an ultrasound technician working in a high volume outpatient OB/GYN or MFM setting preferred.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of obstetric ultrasound principles, anatomy, and fetal development.
- Knowledge of ultrasound physics, instrumentation, and image optimization techniques.
- Knowledge of prenatal screening protocols and high-risk pregnancy indicators.
- Knowledge of safety, infection control, quality improvement practices, and medical ethics.
Skills:
- Skill in communication and interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in gathering, analyzing, and recording patient data.
- Skill in performing and documenting OB ultrasound exams accurately and efficiently.
- Skill in identifying normal and abnormal fetal and maternal anatomy.
Abilities:
- Ability to explain procedures and results to patients in a clear and friendly manner.
- Ability to calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.
- Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.
- Ability to work collaboratively with OB providers and clinical staff.
Equipment Operated:
- Variety of Sonography equipment including ultrasound machines, transducers, gels, and computer hardware/software.
Work Environment:
- Combination of exam and laboratory rooms and darkroom.
- In some situations, may work in operating room. Sometimes works in close quarters.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
- May be standing for long periods and may have to lift/turn disabled patients.
- Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Some stress related to dealing with anxious patients.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate ultrasound equipment.
Other Requirements:
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job
