Summary:
The Shipper role requires a detail-oriented, safety-focused individual to accurately pick, pack, label, and ship domestic and international orders. Knowledge of Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) handling, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, international shipping requirements, and Bills of Lading (BOLs) are essential. Duties include product filing and regulatory compliance, as well as collaborating with the internal team to resolve order issues and ensure customer order accuracy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Shipping & Order Fulfillment:
- Pick and stage customer orders accurately using packing slips, ERP system, or pick lists.
- Perform product filling and packaging based on order specifications, including proper sealing, labeling, and weight verification.
- Identifies defective materials/product and reports issue to Team Lead and Shipping Coordinator to assist corrective actions and solutions.
- Prepare shipments for domestic and international destinations, including hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Create and process shipping documents such as BOLs, commercial invoices, packing lists, and shipping labels.
- Coordinate pickups and deliveries with freight carriers (LTL, FTL, courier, and international freight forwarders).
- Ensure all outgoing shipments meet DOT and international shipping regulations, including proper use of UN labels, hazard classes, and documentation.
Hazmat & DOT Compliance:
- Package and label hazardous materials in compliance with 49 CFR (DOT), IATA (air), and IMDG (ocean) regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hazardous goods classifications, safety data sheets (SDS), and packaging instructions.
- Complete required documentation for regulated materials, including shipper's declarations and emergency response info.
- Conduct pre-shipment inspections to ensure containers are sealed, labeled, and marked according to Hazmat protocols.
Inventory & Warehouse Operations:
- Assist with inventory control including cycle counts and stock replenishment.
- Ensure accuracy of product quantities and lot numbers during picking and filling.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shipping and warehouse areas and support SQF requirements.
- Support receiving team with unloading, inspection, and staging of incoming materials as needed.
- Maintains and stocks adequate inventory of shipping materials and supplies in area.
Documentation & Systems:
- Accurately enter shipment details into ERP or shipping platforms (e.g., FedEx, UPS, DHL, freight systems).
- Maintain shipping logs, regulatory records, and carrier performance reports.
- Prepare documentation packets for customs clearance and export compliance
- Prepare and provide customer specific documentation using preferred method of communication.
Order Accuracy & Cross-Functional Communication:
- Ensure customer order accuracy by thoroughly verifying item, quantity, lot, and labeling prior to shipment.
- When order discrepancies or entry issues arise, collaborate with the appropriate Sales Team member to verify and clarify order details.
- Communicate with the Shipping Coordinator and Team Lead to resolve fulfillment conflicts, shipping delays, or documentation concerns.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience: 1 + years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in manufacturing and/or food grade facility preferred.
Certifications: Ability to become forklift certified. Must successfully complete General Awareness Haz Mat training within the first 90 days of employment. Additional Air & Ocean HazMat training must be completed within the company-specified time frame.
Functional Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Basic understanding of percentages. Ability to recognize and follow alpha and numeric sequences. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization is sometimes limited. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Technology Aptitude/Skills: Basic knowledge of computer and keyboard functions. Working knowledge of manufacturing, inventory control and order processing software.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate and receive information in both verbal and written formats. Ability to give and receive feedback in a professional manner. Ability to read and understand documents such as shop order tickets, safety rules, memos, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Physical and Sensory Demands / Environmental Conditions / Equipment Used:
- Ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds regularly during each shift and frequently move 400+ pound barrels and totes with assistance regularly throughout a shift with the assistance of equipment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, electronic devices, photocopiers, filing systems/cabinets and fax machines.
- This role frequently uses basic hand tools and other equipment to operate and/or perform maintenance and/or repairs on equipment.
- This role routinely operates heavy equipment, machinery, or general facility equipment.
- Ability to sit and operate motorized equipment frequently, including forklifts.
- Ability to use hands and fingers reach, grip, grasp, twist and to operate hand tools/equipment and machinery frequently.
- Ability to operate keyboard and view computer screen occasionally.
- Ability to write ideas/information in a logical flow occasionally.

- The employee is required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses, hair/beard nets and steel toed shoes, as required. Ability to wear a respirator, when needed.
- Employees may work the 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift, generally Monday through Friday, but weekly hours and number of days per week may vary. Overtime is sometimes necessary to ensure business and customer needs are met.
