Job Summary:
The Referral Specialist is responsible for monitoring the Elizabeth Layton Center’s electronic health record for behavioral health referrals and helps to engage the individual and/or their guardian in obtaining appointments. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Monitors the Elizabeth Layton Center’s electronic health record for behavioral health referral
- Assists the individual or guardian in completion of required documents or release of information for the agency of referral
- Helps to identify appropriate specialist or facilities based on the behavioral health referral
- Helps to identify the appropriate facilities based on the client insurance coverage
- Collaborates with Elizabeth Layton Center staff to assist in scheduling referral appointments
- Monitor and assist clients in scheduling appointments to ensure timely access to necessary medical services
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient referrals and documentation of communication
- Responsible for data entry and monitoring through Excel spreadsheets and electronic health record
- Assists the client by answering questions related to referrals
- Monitor and track the status of patient referrals, ensuring that appointments are kept and results are received.
- Communicate with patients to confirm appointments and provide reminders
- Provides reception day and evening front desk coverage
- Greets all clients and visitors to the Elizabeth Layton Center
- Answers multi-line telephone system, assess calls for emergency, screen/transfer calls, and take messages as needed
- Collect fees and other pertinent information when client arrives
- Enters information into the appointment scheduler program
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee
- Completes all required trainings as assigned
- Complies with ELC policies and procedures
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Degree or equivalent
- One year of previous clerical or general office experience or required
- One year of previous computer, typing and data entry experience required
- One year of previous customer service experience required
- Any combination of job-related experience and/or training which would produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Ability to successfully pass all required background checks
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately, effectively and in a timely manner
- Knowledge of the procedures and policies of the assigned department
- General knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Ability to maintain complex file systems
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately
- Ability to operate a computer, multi-line telephone switchboard and other general office equipment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the public
- Ability to safely perform major job responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations
- Ability to remain calm and courteous in a fast-paced and challenging office environment
- Ability to travel to different office locations on occasion
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs
