Bodewell Group is seeking a full-time Manager to support transportation and infrastructure public outreach and communications projects. This role is responsible for managing client accounts, supporting project outreach strategies, and overseeing the day-to-day execution of communications and stakeholder engagement programs. The Manager serves as a primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders, collaborates closely with project teams and public agencies, and provides guidance and support to junior staff. This position requires strong project management, communications, and stakeholder engagement skills, with opportunities to contribute to business development and help grow client relationships.

Location and Travel:

This position is primarily based at a client site in San Jose, with an expected onsite presence of approximately 4 days per week, subject to change based on client needs and availability. The role may also involve early mornings, evenings and weekend hours, as needed. Travel is required up to 30% of the time. Additional travel may arise to accommodate project demands, company needs and conference participation.


Commuter Benefit: Employees who commute from outside the designated distance from our San Jose office may be eligible for a commuter benefit in accordance with company policy.


Compensation:

The annual base salary for this position is determined based on several factors, including the candidate's geographic location, experience, qualifications, job-related skills, internal equity, and work location, where applicable. The posted salary range reflects the Company's good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting and may be adjusted periodically based on business needs, market conditions, or changes in the location where the employee resides.


A typical annual base range for this role is: $85,000– $110,000 (actual compensation may vary by location and will follow local regulations).


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of project communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Coordinate public communications and stakeholder outreach efforts, helping keep residents, businesses, and community groups informed throughout project delivery.
  • Assist in the implementation of construction outreach programs and issue response plans, helping address community concerns and support project objectives.
  • Manage community coordination activities, including stakeholder notifications, project updates, and outreach related to project impacts and schedules.
  • Plan and execute public meetings, open houses, stakeholder briefings, and other community engagement activities.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent project communications.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, advisory groups, and community forums, documenting feedback and supporting follow-up actions.
  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for public agencies, community stakeholders, elected officials, residents, and businesses.
  • Monitor stakeholder feedback and community concerns, escalating issues as appropriate and supporting resolution efforts.
  • Draft, review, and distribute public-facing materials, including fact sheets, presentations, newsletters, project updates, meeting summaries, and outreach collateral.
  • Track outreach activities, stakeholder engagement efforts, and project communications metrics, providing regular updates to clients and project teams.
  • Support project budgeting, scheduling, invoicing, and overall account management activities for assigned projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, supporting project execution and professional development.
  • Participate in business development efforts, including networking, proposal support, and relationship-building activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in public outreach, public affairs, strategic communications, community engagement, or a related field, preferably supporting transportation, infrastructure, utility, or public agency projects, with at least 3 years in an agency or a combination of agency and in-house environment.
  • Experience managing client accounts, projects, budgets, and multiple concurrent priorities in a professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting public outreach, stakeholder engagement, or communications programs for infrastructure, transportation, utility, land use, or public sector projects.
  • Experience supporting construction-phase communications and public outreach, including stakeholder notifications, community engagement, issue management, and coordination related to project impacts, schedules, and milestones.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible messaging.
  • Excellent project management, client service, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Willingness to support projects across sectors as business needs require.
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours or weekends and travel up to 30% as needed.

Language Skills: Employees who are fluent in Spanish, or other languages as needed, may be expected to provide in-house translation and interpretation services as part of their role.
