POSITION SUMMARY

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse with specialized training in diagnosing and treating various health conditions. Functioning with a high degree of autonomy, the NP conducts comprehensive patient assessments, develops and implements individualized care plans, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for acute and chronic psychiatric disorders.

  • Obtain comprehensive psychiatric histories and perform focused physical assessments; assess risk (suicide, violence, medical), order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, and manage follow-up appointments.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with clinic policy, formulary, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Consult with psychiatrists and other physicians on complex cases that exceed scope of practice.
  • Document all clinical encounters, assessments, treatment plans, medication changes, and case presentations accurately in the medical record.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate patient- and family-centered mental health education focused on illness management, relapse prevention, and wellness promotion.
  • Coordinate care and maintain clear communication with primary care providers, therapists, social workers, and other health professionals to ensure integrated, effective care.
  • Provide clinical consultation and mentorship to nursing and clinic staff to support quality improvement and professional development.
  • Provide psychotherapy and medication management, monitor treatment progress toward goals, educate patients on therapy and medications, and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Ensure patient and staff safety and regulatory compliance by enforcing clinic policies, accreditation and payer requirements, participating in utilization review, and remaining available for urgent clinical situations.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Attendance at scheduled work shifts is an essential function of this role.


Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing. 
  • Those six years are composed of a 4-year undergraduate nursing program followed by a 2-year nurse practitioner master's program that includes psychiatric nursing.
  • Must have or pursuing a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Prior experience in providing mental health counseling services within a clinical setting

  • Must possess a State License to practice Nursing and it must be in good standing.
  • Must possess the knowledge base in health promotion maintenance, advanced pathophysiology, advanced health assessment and pharmacology for advanced practice nurses.
  • Must possess the following concepts: individual and family psychotherapy, psychiatric-mental health nursing across the lifespan, advanced assessment in psychiatric-mental health nursing and psychopharmacology.
